bobbyf Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Had my freebie screenpro pull down since June, with my Epson TW700, but i've just started to notice that the sides are curling quite badly and now its starting to affect viewing...ie its pissing me off. Straight lines aren't straight anymore and all that.. I've heard this mentioend before on forums as a 'con' for pull downs, which is true, but i wondered if there was a solution to it. I can't have a fixed screen as it is in the window, so the only options are a new one that won't curl, or a fix for this one. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Bob

Thanks Bob The LP morgan Rondo has the sides of the screen cut in a curve that hells reduce the rippling. We had one at my previous work and it stayed straight but Foggy's reported that he's seen one (some?) that have warped as well. They probably warp a lot less than the others though. The only other option is to get a tab tensioned screen. Unfortunately with most of the cheaper ones on ebay the tensioning is more gimmick than effective. This leaves you with going for something like a Stewart but you're talking serious $$$$. Edited September 21, 2008 by The_Preacher1973

50mxe20 Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Had one too a while back roll down same problem, curled. What is the solution if you want a drop down in front of a plasma??
djsherly1503559978 Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Had one too a while back roll down same problem, curled. I've had it maybe 6 years so it's not too bad. It's a 4:3 but I am going to mask it down to 16:9, if the ripples come out.
Guest EZYHD Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 What is the solution if you want a drop down in front of a plasma?? I had mine replaced. the 2nd one was OK. I don't think there is anyway of fixing the curl. Best to go for a tab tensioned one IMO.

xcracer Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 i think the curls would have to come from humidity,, correct me if im wrong.. so if your somewhere where it rains alot i spose you might need to have the fan going or something to keep it from getting "damp" .. .. .. .. .. ..

Anything is possible. Bare in mind this is a 'free screen', so it's another made in china cheapie. I put the curling down to poor engineering. You're not going to get anything flash with a free 'made in china' pull down screen. Could always get rid of the plasma and put in a fixed screen

Could always get rid of the plasma and put in a fixed screen I suspect that you're right, especially as i've only had it for a few months. There have been occasions were i have left it down overnight. I doubt that this would help either Thanks for the replies, i'll be looking into the tab tensioned screens a bit more i reckon. Replacing the plasma is not an option as far as the missus is concerned!! Cheers Bob Edited September 24, 2008 by bobbyf

oztheatre Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 How about replacing the missus? You have all the great ideas
quijibo Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 It is the opening and closing that causes it mostly I believe. The curling usually starts from the bottom middle down near the handle. Most electric screens don't have as big of a problem. My cheap screen has it pretty bad, but I have found I can feed the screen back into the bar near the handle and it reduces th problem, but not by much. I really don't notice it on mine unless I am using it as a PC screen and the straight lines aren't that straight. When watching movies, sport or tv I cannot really notice it.
oztheatre Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Look on the bright side, you've almost got yourself a curved screen.
bobbyf Posted September 24, 2008 Author Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) How about replacing the missus? Don't give me ideas boys!! It's you lot that got me in this mess in the first place Bob Edited September 24, 2008 by bobbyf
bobbyf Posted September 24, 2008 Author Posted September 24, 2008 Look on the bright side, you've almost got yourself a curved screen. So if i leave it long enough, and move my seat forward, it'll be like one of those dome type experiences will it??? I should download one of them in-car rollercoaster videos, and it'll feel like i'm right there Cool
Tweet Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Well, you could always use some good old Aussie ingenuity......like Blu Tack the edges to the plasma....... .....or to wooden vertical supports while you are using the screen for viewing. Easily fixed. C.M
