jrtm Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 (edited) I find it pathetic that Channel 9 decided a rubbish movie would rate better in Melbourne over live Rugby League Brisbane V Melbourne crunch game. Channel nine don't even have the rights to AFL anymore so they should have just shown the whole NRL season at the the same time as Sydney and there would have been a reason for an audience to watch as they would have known the importance of the game. More FTA crap, these stations need to grow a freaking brain. What was the point in showing a live Melbourne final last week? Edited September 20, 2008 by jrtm

Viva Channel 9 for making the correct decision. You honestly think anyone in Melbourne would have cared about a 2nd rate sporting league match when their home sport had their penultimate marquee game on this evening? I'm sure whatever movie Ch9 showed in Melbourne rated/would have rated a hell of a lot better than a rugby league match

Besides I thought that Victoria was the sports capital of Australia or is that just a load of it?

You can show it live, in prime time all you like, but it won't rate in Melbourne, Perth or Adelaide - especially when it is up against a prelim between two Victorian teams.

I think Channel 9 should experiment and simulcast the 2009 NRL season on 9 Melbourne and see how the ratings go. What is a shame is that Melbourne have been playing well the past three years and next year will be a rebuilding phase so the NRL may have missed the boat. Nobody in Melbourne will support a team that is losing.
hypnotoad8128 Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 (edited) And who says Nine don't have intelligent programmers in Melbourne, huh? NOT showing the rugby down here was the smartest move they could have made. It doesn't rate here because Melbournians don't have sloped foreheads, drink XXXX and drag their knuckles on the ground. We're smart enough to watch better sports. Who wants to watch a bunch of brainless whackers run one direction while throwing the ball the other way. Good on you channel nine Melbourne. Does Melbourne have a team in that silly sport? GOD RUGBY SUCKS! tonymy01 Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 LOL, got a few chuckles in this thread. I am from Sydney, and can assure you that I would not even consider trying that weak as piss XXXX stuff. But Adelaide is AFL territory isn't it? I bought a pint down there and it was 400mls, since when does a pint not equal 600mls???? They also have schooners that are the size of midi's up this way... so it is weak as piss grog from Qland, and small as a thimble beer from Adelaide (and just coming back from Perth this weekend, expensive as hell beers in Perth!), so the only good places to have a beer are Melbourne and Sydney, I prefer a pint over a schooner so it looks like Melbourne wins, yay. I actually enjoy the AFL, despite the whistle blowing all the time hehe (whistle blow is good, that means someone caught the ball, right??) The AFL picture quality (esp the 10HD shows, 7HD is finally catching up) runs rings around the shite thugby that Nein is showing too, almost VHS quality garbage from Nein. Regards
jrtm Posted September 22, 2008 Author Posted September 22, 2008 This coming from the rugby lover. HA! Looks like I hit a nerve. I wouldn't flatter yourself, I have a broader sports taste than you and enjoy all sports and the more sports the marrier I say. If I had my way there would be sports on every channel 24/7 Actually one of my highlights in sports was to go to an AFL semi finals game between Essendon and Westcoast a few years back. It was remarkable how these guys play on a cricket oval size field and can get the ball from one pocket to the other so quickly. All in all I am a New Southwelshman and love my Rugby League because I played it and grew up with it.
wfdTamar Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 (edited) Now if only we could get all sport on one channel, call it something like 'Overpaid, drugged up yobs Channel' I'd be very happy. Clear the air for something actually worth watching. Edited September 30, 2008 by wfdtamar
