The HT-BD2T Integrated Blu-Ray Home Theatre System

Is this a bad purchase?

Is integrated sound with player A Bad Thing or is it perfectly acceptable?

At the moment I'm tossing and turning over whether or not I want to go the route with integrated speaker-player system or separate my player and receiver-speaker systems.

Opinions - Integrated system vs player & sound system?

If the latter option is your choice, can you give what sound system + player fits in the price range? I'm getting $1000 for an ex-display model of the Samsung shown above, retail is $1300 or so.

Edit: Hmmm, after reading around here and doing some searches it seems this is a bad deal because of being Blu-Ray version 1.0 and region-locked for Standard DVDs, not a great thing in my book. What other players are good?

Actually,

RRP is $1759 if you're talking about the HT-BD2T, with a go price of $1599. $1000 is a great price as it is cost.

I would normally reccomend seperate components but at that price you're better off going for the samsung.

It's a beautiful system, asthetically and acoustically and has won many awards. There's nothing else that I could reccomend with blu-ray that decodes the audio and all the other frills that this system has to offer and come anywhere near that price.

What about the version control issue? Or is that an issue facing every Blu-Ray player? I read someplace that the above model is restricted to version 1.0 firmware.

I've just priced a Panasonic Blu-Ray player

http://www.panasonic.com.au/products/detai...?productID=6576

and Panasonic receiver system

http://panasonic.com.au/products/details.cfm?objectID=3955

For a combined price of $1200.

Then I also have the option of going PS3 ($700 for either the 80gb model or the 40gb model with 2 games) and a separate receiver unit, like the above Panasonic.

The issue is that I have a multiregion divX dvd player that's actually pretty decent that I'd like to keep as a line-in to the sound + TV. The panasonic integrated system defeats that purpose I think.

I believe so but I'm now considering receivers that can take in the non-HDMI input from my old reliable multiregion/divX capable player.

I got an offer today I'm considering from Good Guys for $2450

TV: TH-42PX8A ($1250)

BR DVD: DMP-BD30 ($600)

Sound: SC-HT65 ($600)

All Panasonic.

Have posted this before but I set this system up for my olds a couple of months back and was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality. PQ also quite good through their 1080p sammy plasma.

For the price you mention, sweet deal.

My set up is worth $15k and as I said I was quite surprised at what the Samsung HTiB pushed out. I Am Legend was very good.

Don't think you'll find the Panasonic option you linked will decode the HD Audio formats.

The Samsung option is good value for money, that's for sure. I'm guessing that it would be pretty poor for playing back music, so if you largely plan on only watching movies on it then it would be a decent option. Some might argue that you would struggle to tell the difference between HD Audio and DD/DTS on a system of this quality though.

The fact that it is locked to BD Profile 1.0 is a bit of a concern also.

I'm sure the DMP-BD30 can do the decoding. I have an older model - BD10A, and am wondering about the panasonic audio options. They have a full-HD pack, but it includes the BD player which I don't need. Does the SC-HT65 handle 8 channels? Can I just get a 2nd wireless pack and have 7.1 surround sound?
