Hi all,

Just picked up a DGTEC 5120 HD set-top box, to replace my SD box in the bedroom. Now the SD box has been working fine, but when I try and connect the Dgtec unit the screen doesn't come up properly, it looks like there's some sort of interference as it cuts in and out, gets crazy lines, etc - but I know there's enough signal.

Any thoughts? It's not a new, new TV, however it's not that old, and I've tried component connection, and just red/white/yellow RCA connection, with the same issue.

Cheers,

Ben

Take it straight back would be my suggestion.

The TV works, the old SD box worked. The only thing that has changed is the new box and it doesn't work on any connector. Good chance it is the box.

Just wondering how you went with the box, i was in at Dick Smith and bought one of these, the salesman specifically told me what i had to do to get a picture - seems a few people have had a problem. Problem is i can't remember what i had to do! Bugger..

Anyone else out there with a DGTEC DG-HD5210? Help would be appreciated. Thanks

Fixed my problem!!!

just had to press the Format button a number of times until it was on 576i rather than 576p, 720p or 1080i...

Now it is working quite well.. not a bad little unit for the price.

Terrible unit took it back 2 times to JB due to the video input stuffing up swapped over for a new one and ended up buying a slightly more expensive one but no problems like those ones!!

Steer clear of this box and Digitec as a rule.

You get what you pay for

You will only experience this problem if connecting through the red white and yellow leads (Composite) if you connect through HDMI or Component you will not have this issue. It is because the unit being a "HD" box is factory set to 1080i, by pressing the format button the menu will appear and 576 will flash up on the display.

There is no actual problem with the box. You will find once connected it changes channels quite quickly in comparison to other brands.

Yes, for some strange reason this box defaults to 576p which doesn't help when connecting to a ancient TV as I am. The manual is so poorly written it doesn't help matters much.

I had a really odd problem with trying to cater for daylight saving today. Could not figure out how to change to summer time as noted in the shocking manual. While my other STBs changed automatically, this one refused and the claimed Summer Time setting isn't there, instead settings for selected states (which matches the image in the manual).

Low behold, by accident, I discovered if you set the time to QLD which does not have daylight saving, you get the right time. Obviously there is a mistake in the labeling of the Time Region settings.

Despite these oddities, performance wise it is a great STB and better than my other two SD units (i.e. when comparing features and SD reception). It is a pity the instructions are so poor and surely must result in a lot of returns and customer enquiries/complaints.

Can anyone help me at all? I just bought a new DGTEC DG-HD5210 from Dick Smith, they said it was the only one they had and that it was really good. Anyway, I have tried everything possible to tune it and I can't get a picture, like the menu, to start programming. Everytime I click on exit and then format, when it comes to 576i it immediately reverts back to 0000. Is this normal, cos I can't proceed forward.

Well thanks so much for that little bit of info. We've been scratching our heads since last night until I found this little bit of info about the format button. Hubby is now happily tuning the channels in. Phew. Got me off the hook. :D
