Cody Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 just happened across the news of this new SACD player, the first since the budget SCD-XA1200ES a few years ago (which was never sold in Aus). LINK visually at least, its based on the XA9000ES, but features wise has a few key differences, and some interesting goodies.. SCD-XA5400ES at a glance - High-end Super Audio CD/CD player for multi-channel and stereo music - DSD transfer via HDMI to STR-DA5400ES, with H.A.T.S. for HDMI system to ensure accuracy and sound quality - High-quality Super Audio CD conversion system, using six stereo converters, for analogue output - Twin-laser design for optimal reading of Super Audio CDs and CDs - Frame and beam chassis for rigidity - Twin transformers – one for audio, one for control and digital – for the best sound - RCA phono and balanced analogue outputs I think this is the first audio only player (that I've seen anyway) that employs HDMI to bitstream DSD. In turn, its dropped multi-channel analogue and i.link. Interesting also that they included balanced outputs, which Sony hasnt used since the SCD-1. Apparently it also uses a completely new DAC system, utilising 6 stereo SA DAC's for the equivalent of 12 separate DAC's (the 9000ES used 18 SA DAC's). Looks to be an interesting pice of kit and good to see Sony still alive and kicking in the SACD arena. That said, I highly doubt we'll see it here, given Sony Australia's track record on HiFi products.
avrtRick Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I wonder how it will stack up against the likes of marantz? I hope it comes to our shores.....
azure1503559508 Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I'm also hoping that its released locally.. According to Sony Japan’s press release, the DSD multi-level filter, D/A converter system, and Super Audio D/A converter technology are the best Sony has produced to date... http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?s=&...t&p=1150702
