Sparrow Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 I recently purchased a BD-P1500 from another forum member here & have had it a week or so .... and luuurve it !!! It is heaps faster to load than my old BD-P1000 and it miraculously plays EVERYTHING I have thrown at it !!! I only have an older Denon 3802 so I can't take advantage of the new audio capabilities just yet ... I feel an AVR 'upgrade' coming soon ... much to Mrs Sparrow's distain Have noticed a huge amount of these players for sale on fleabay and some going for what I'd consider a pretty good price .... so it would appear that plenty of people who got them as part of the Samsung promotion, are not keeping them & actually 'on selling' them ??? I almost had myself talked into buying a Panny BD-30 & have it made region free ... but then I had a serious look at just how many region 'A' titles I was so desperate to have .... enough to justify the additional cost of first paying a premium price for the BD-30 ... & then another $200 for the region free mod's .... and I found it came down again to NEEDS ... & WANTS ??? I have a sneaking suspicion that I may be actually starting to 'grow up' & show some restraint ***shock horror*** when it come to 'toys' that I would normally just buy it .... & then spend weeks trying to justify my 'must have' purchase to the war office ??? I just sold my old BD-P1000 on fleabay to offset the cost of this newer player and in the end it has only cost me @ $150 to get what I wanted ... a BR player that would just PLAY Blu Ray discs without any hassles .... and I have got what I soooooo wanted !!! So am I the only one who has one of these players and is actually happy with it ???
tonymy01 Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 I got mine off a member here too (for a bit more than people are trying to flog them now, the old "if only I waited a few more weeks" thing kicked in a bit, but then, hey, this guy was cool, he went out of his way to get me receipts, letters etc, no dramas). It loads everything I have, which, at the time of purchase of the player was nothing :-). I have about 12titles now and all work fine, happy that it downcodes to DTS and integrates well enough with my existing Sammy LCD (with the Anynet thing). I figured eventually I would get a BR player given the demise of HD-DVD (I was a fence sitter until the clear winner came out... shame it wasn't the one I was hoping for, oh well), and these "cheap" forum offers came at a good enough time. (I say cheap because when I went to Hardly Normal only a month or so before in their new financial year/stocktake thing, their cheapest BR player was over $600 still). Regards
ELK007 Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 I recently went into JB Hifi the other day and was surprised to see that they were selling the P1500 for $100 cheaper than the P1400. I asked the salesman why that was the case and he wasn't too sure. So he asked his boss and he said that it because the P1400 had more 'features'. I suppose the P1500 doesn't have 5.1 Analogue Out like the P1400. But I don't know of too much more features other than that. I personally have a P1400 and am happy about the 5.1 Analogue Out because I have an old AV amp and so it allows me to still get the newer formats (except DTS HDMA).
Guest Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 I bought one for my father who's visiting next week. It will be his first foray in HDM so he will be chuffed. I cant say the sound being bitstream is any better than my PS3 doing the decoding, but picture is definately better on the PS3 in my opinion. However as a first BR machine for some its very good, expecially for the money being offloaded on EBay.
isilver Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 I got mine free a week ago after the purchase of my Samsung Series 6 TV ion August, I haven't had any issues with it when playing BD titles, in fact the few BD movies I have watched on it have been astounding (Apocalypto, Planet of the Apes, 2001 (which takes ages to load) both in video and audio. My local Video-Ezy store has a small (uninteresting) library of titles so I joined BigPond Movies because they have lots so I can't wait to see more titles. I have had issues with the player but only when playing DVDs and CDs for example; 1. I couldn't get any of 6 commercial music CDs to load, the BD-P1500 tried loading and eventually spat them out saying "This disc can't be played" next day a couple of the CDs loaded and got half way through then started stuttering and skipping pieces. 2. I've had the same skipping problem with a few DVDs too. 3. My wife today brought home a dozen DVDs which were professionally converted from DV tapes and none of them will load on the BD-P1500, they are eventually spat them out saying "This disc can't be played" All the discs in points 1 and 2 work on my existing DVD player without a problem, so do the DVDs in point 3 which are all DVD-R formatted discs (the User Manual doesn't mention DVD+R so I assume they are not supported). I hope to be able to spend some time with the player over the coming week to see if things get better. Anybody else had this or know what the problem could be?
isilver Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 I almost had myself talked into buying a Panny BD-30 & have it made region free ... Have you seen this post? http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtop...p;#entry1140670 - I haven't tried it yet myself ... I have a sneaking suspicion that I may be actually starting to 'grow up' & show some restraint ***shock horror*** when it come to 'toys' that I would normally just buy ... Hopefully you'll grow out of that soon
mrmaxwell1503559518 Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 I was staying well clear of these Sammy BR players due to my (single) terrible experience with my old Sammy DVD HDMI upscale player. I had nothing but trouble with that DVD player, hated the remote, hated the limited menu, and eventually it crapped itself 13 months after purchase (out of warranty). Can it be said these BR players are not of the same 'Samsung' experience I've had?
tonymy01 Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 I am not touching the Iphone because once my Apple IIc crashed & it took ages to find how to get it going again.

I have ordered one of these for my folks as a replacement for the CD player also. Anyone else have any issues playing CDs and DVDs? Also, can someone please tell me what cables are included in the box? HDMI or just composite?

Yeah, I was hoping to get rid of my other DVD player but not so sure now. Their is definitely a HDMI cable in the box, I can't remember about the composite cables though. I had one of the EzyHD HDMI cables all ready and waiting for the BD-P1500 so didn't need anything that was in the box.
Forest Boy Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 So am I the only one who has one of these players and is actually happy with it ??? Only small gripes - I would have preferred if it played Divx files, also the remote's weird shape keep slipping out of my hand. Other than that I've had no problems with it, and am happy with it.
fossicker Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 also the remote's weird shape keep slipping out of my hand. What,.... fish like?

Al In The Forest, have you had any issues with DVD-R, CD-R or regular audio CD's?
nvrbrn Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I'm happy with mine - plays all the dvds, cds, and blu-rays i've thrown at it. If only it had divx capabilities
Forest Boy Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Al In The Forest, have you had any issues with DVD-R, CD-R or regular audio CD's? Sorry can't help you there, have't tried any of those. Only DVDs and BR. On a different issue, has anyone bothered to ask Samsung Aus when they will start publishing BD-P1500- firmware on the Aus site ? (Perhaps not until Profile 2.0 ?)
mrdenn1s Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 OK...I have the choice of a 1500 or a BD30 for my birthday next week I have an Onkyo 606, so I'm not fussed about what decoding the player does as long as it bitstreams all formats. Which player do I get??? Sounds like the 1500 is easy to change to multi region and is quite fast to load. Can people who have tried both (take out the sound issue as it doesnt matter) guide me??

I'm not sure about the 1500 being easy to multi-region (for Blu-ray), in fact I'm sure sure it's even possible. If it were I'd be all over one of these ~$300 ones like a rash. yorac, Kazz, momaw and several others have the BD30 and have had it moddified with a chip to make it region free for BD and they can speak about the cost of the chip and fitting it if you asked them.
fossicker Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Sounds like the 1500 is easy to change to multi region and is quite fast to load. You can multi-region for DVD, but not for BD.
loveht Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I have one going for sale in brisbane - $340 ono. I can supply copy of receipt and warranty papers with it. If interested, pm me.
isilver Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 There is some info on making the BD-P1500 multi-region for DVDs here ... http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtop...t&p=1140670 . As for speed, I loaded "2001" and it took ages to start up, so long in fact I was going to time the next BD I put in it but it loaded pretty quickly as have the other 4 or 5 BDs I've put in it.
mrdenn1s Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Got my 1500 today Now gotta go get some movies!
tonyjg Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 (edited) ......... and integrates well enough with my existing Sammy LCD (with the Anynet thing). (thought I'd use an old thread rather than start a new one !!!!) wow.... what a KERFUFFLE I am having with this Blu player, my Samsung Plasma, my Yahama RX-V663 and HDDVD player !!! with regards to the ANYNET stuff - gee - its in my initial opinion TOTAL CRAP. I have the Blu-ray player HDMId into the AMP, along with the HDDVD player - then HDMI 1 out to the Plasma. When bringing up the SOURCE - the Blu-ray player is showing with the ANYNET - but I can't figure out why its not on the HDMI 1 connection Trying to get anything to work - ie - figure out WHAT HDMI input to HDMI 1 output on the Plasma VS the Anynet crap is mindnumbing (even for someone whom has been playing with AVRs and electronics for ages). I'm wondering - has anyone else had any issues with a SAMSUNG PLASMA / SAMSUNG BLU-RAY and a Yamaha amp regarding 'connectivity' ?? many thanks in advance EDIT - add to the fact tha Wall-E disc 1 wouldnt play. I have a Samsung TV, Yamaha AVR and a Samsung Bluray player. I connected the player to the Yamaha, then ran to the HDMI 1 port on the TV. I too see the Anynet thing when I press 'source' on the TV but I always go to HDMI 1 instead. It seems Anynet feature is a bit useless anyway, I had it working for a while but for some reason it won't connect now? My advice, save your sanity and just select the HDMI 1 port and forget about Anynet.
