I upgraded last weekend to 2.36 and it took forever.

I put in a new copy of GT5P and it needed to go to the web for an update to the game

The update keeps craching for the game and will not complete - yet all other downloading ect works alright ? IS this because I need 2.4 - anyone know ?

The "cure" in detail:

1. You will need to buy a serial ATA (SATA) 2.5" hard drive enclosure.

2. Remove hard drive from PS3 and remove metal guide bracket.

3. Insert PS3 hard drive into new enclosure which will have a USB port on it.

4. Hook up unit to PC with USB cab;e.

5. Right click on "My Computer" and then click on "Manage."

6. In this window double-click on "Disk Management."

7. One of the disk volumes on the bottom right will be this new disk drive. Make sure the size matches (e.g., 60GB drive would show up at about 54GB).

8. Right click on it and choose "Format."

9. When finished formatting, remove drive from new enclosure and replace in PS3.

10. You may wish to have FW 2.36 on standby in a thumb drive in case the PS 3 asks for it.

That should do it.

Caveat: If you are uncomfortable with any of this process you should get someone familiar with these types of processes to help you or send it in to SONY.

PS3 Firmware 2.41 release by Wednesday

Posted on Mon, 7 Jul 2008 07:17:45 CDT | by Luigi Lugmayr

Sony released the PS3 firmware 2.40 on July 2nd. After a couple of hours Sony removed the system update due to reports of some bricked PS3 consoles. CVG reports today that Sony is apparently releasing a new PS3 firmware 2.41 that will have the issues resolved by Wednesday.

The release date for 2.41 is not official yet. CVG received the information of a mid-week release from Sony support.

The new PS3 update 2.40 was to bring the Trophy system and in-game XMB support. See more details and Walkthrough videos of the new PS3 firmware.

Seperately there are reports that the output volume from HDMI has dropped with the recent FW updates.

Update features (ver 2.41) Find out about PS3 system software update 2.41.

An update to the PS3 system software was released on July 8, 2008. If you update your PS3 system, the system software version will be 2.41. In order to download PS3 system software version 2.41, you will need a minimum 135Mb of free space on either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).

With this update, we have fixed the problem that has prevented a limited number of PS3 systems from activating properly after updating to version 2.40, which was caused by certain system administrative data being contained in the HDD.

For those users who have updated to version 2.40 and have experienced the problem that the PS3 Home Menu (XMB) is not appearing, or no images are displaying on the screen, please contact Customer Service.

We have confirmed that for those users who have successfully updated to version 2.40 and are able to activate the PS3 system, this problem will not occur on your PS3.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you and appreciate for your understanding and continued support.

Note:

This system software update includes all features contained in previous versions.

The new system software will preserve any settings previously made to the PLAYSTATION 3.

Depending on the software title, you may not be able to play without first updating the PS3 system software.

Do not perform updates using any data other than the official update data provided by Sony Computer Entertainment over a network or on disc media, and do not perform updates by methods other than those described in the product documentation or in this site. If an update is performed using data from another source, by another method, or with a PS3 system that has been altered or modified in any way, the PS3 system may not operate properly and may not be able to install the official update data. Any of these actions may void the PS3 system warranty and affect your ability to obtain warranty services and repair services from Sony Computer Entertainment.

Got the FW 2.41 off a Hong Kong website, dropped it onto a thumb drive and viola! My New Line Discs are DTS-MA 7.1 now. No fuss.

Anyone with issues?

Its been pretty good for BR playback so far

Cheers

Seems OK so far also, finally the sound flag for divx over HDMI is fixed. no more stupid 7.1 playback when its only a 2 channel source. Allowing for correct pro-logic decoding.

Do you happen to know if this is the same for music CDs and/or music streamed from a computer?
