hazzad Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 (edited) Hey guys, Ive been reading about DLNA being offered in some of the new and upcoming Sony and Samsung screens. I just weanted to know if anyone had an idea how this worked and what it will be capable of doing? I know that DLNA allows streaming of media from capable devices/PC's on your network, but how exactly does the screen interegrate with these devices and what dictates what the screen is capable of playing back? I cant seem to find much about it for either manufacturer other than the sammy shipping with its on media software that can be installed on your pc if you want. Anyone have any links or further info? twitch1503562349 Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Do a search on UPnP server or TwonkyMedia which is an implementation of a UPnP server on many NAS's.
hazzad Posted July 2, 2008 Author Posted July 2, 2008 Yep i understand the concept of media streaming servers and compatible clients but im trying to understand what the streaming capabilities of these screens is? Has anyone read what they can stream and how they do it? Does ther screen have support for particular codecs or is it somehow using the backend to stream that content to the screen?

None of the current tvs do but I think the 750 samsung and new z or x sonys will. However the ps3 will do it wirelessly. Or ethernet. or you can put on a flash drive and stick in the USB. PS3 doesnt need games to be great :-) Edited July 2, 2008 by mantronic
hazzad Posted July 2, 2008 Author Posted July 2, 2008 Already have a sp3 and 360 and they both work a treat in regars to streaming via my network. Just want to know what the sammy 750 will offer out of the box. Most ive found so far is that there will be on screen net capabilities like weather, stocks, news, etc. But ive yet to see what the media streaming capabilities will be.
