I have a PS 3 40G

I have no problem playing DTS DVDs but I recently tried a Cd with DTS ES encoding and all I got was static. Tried to bitstream to my Yamaha 663 to do the decoding to no avail. Swopped over to LPCM and it was the same.

The same Cd worked with no issue from my Toshia XE1 via HDMI to my amp.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I found this out:

The PS3 supports DTS Audio CDs only at 44.1kHz, so make sure in your PS3's Music Settings, the "Audio CD Output Frequency" is set to that.

This used to be a simple thing in the earlier firmwares.

Unfortunately Sony tried to be too "clever" with its firmware improvements and recently added the 44.1/88.2/176.4kHz automatic upsampling, which breaks compatibility with DTS CDs.

So now everytime you want to play DTS CDs, you need to go to Sound Setting and uncheck the LPCM outputs that are above the 44.1kHz frequency, to force un-upsampled playback.

Most likely you need to set the PS3 to output at 44.1KHz, not 48.
