suldaman Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Well sony have officially confirmed ver 2.40 and it will be coming to north america on wednesday. Which probably means Thursday for us but who knows. Pretty excited about this update as sony has detailed the following to be included in the update; *In-game XMB *Custom soundtracks (HDD native only) *Trophies *Google-powered search This is apparently stage 1 of the 'project' that ps3 devs are wroking on. Improvements will be made in the future to these functions especially.

Does anyone know how we can find out exactly how big all these system updates are?

Looks like they upgraded their servers when they took the network down for maintenance last week, too - the updates usually come down at a crawl but this one's flying down.

Update is a hefty 255MB, up from about 155MB last time. This update enables trophy support within the game - the first PS3 game to get trophies!

You are right about the speed - I've gotten about 3% of the update in about a minutes, which is faster than normal - although it was pain to actually get it to start downloading! What a nice surprise at 3.45pm during my GTA IV session to be told by the ingame mesaging (you know the one in the right corner that tells you when someone is online) to update the system software Spoke too soon it seems.. stuck at 3% for about 2 mins.... hmm...

I take back what I said in my post above Kitten - either you have a direct connection to Sony or your internet is "god" because this download seems to be as slow as always Either that or EVERYONE has just jumped online to grab it, dont blame them considering how good this update is supposed to be

The people that have it installed - how do you access the achievements and what achievements are there?

I dont exactly get the new trophy system. I dont know how the 360 achievements system works but its seems as though it only works for certain games that are trophy compatible according to ps3trophies.org that kinda sux cos none of the games i have are trophy compatible. so does this mean in the future most games will end up getting a new update because sony have rolled out this trophy thing?

Well talk about a waste of time.. after 35 minutes and only downloading 31% it just disconnected from the server and restarted

I dont know how the 360 achievements system works but its seems as though it only works for certain games that are trophy compatible according to ps3trophies.org On the 360 every retail and arcade game has achievements, you can check them through your profile, including ones you have gotten and others you're yet to unlock. You can also check what achievements your friends have. I assume it's going to be the same for the PS3, in the future all games will most likely have trophy support built in, and I'm assuming a whole bunch of old titles will get updates for trophy support. I read an article somewhere that stated that if an older title gets trophy support and you have already completed the action required to unlock it, that it will automatically become unlocked for you. Don't know how true that is though?

Its only downloading at 57kb a second, but its faster than letting the PS3 do it. There are screenshots available on the PS3 site - it looks like if you dont have the trophy, and you friends dont have it either, it remains as a ???? instead of telling you what you need to do to get it. Devoran Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Use the manual update method (i.e. the links above) and a download manager like the one available from freedownloadmanager.org - I just downloaded the update in 1min 30 sec on an ADSL2+ connection.
