G'day all

Well, my BenQ W5000 & scope screen went up 3 days ago, in our lounge room; not a purpose built room (another strory).

I really wanted to be able to achieve the scope format straight off, so I went for a PJ with vertical stretch and a scope screen ~115" (2.35:1).

http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?act=att...ost&id=5206

To be honest , I'm running blind as I've never owned a PJ before.

I'm reasonable happy 'out of the box' but I'm sure it can be tweaked so I can get that 'WOW' factor.

So I thought I would start this thread to share experiences, ideas, etc...

I'm running HD-DVD via HDMI, as well as component & composite; all over 10m.

I am yet to install the scope lens as it will be too visually imposing in its box in front of the ceiling mounted projector.

I have to seriously think about how I'm going to get around this.

* Are there any obvious things I should do, that I may not have considered?

* Have any othe owners had the PJs ISF calibrated? Cost? RoI?

Looking forward to reading about others experiences.

I asked the below same question in another thread but this thread may be more appropriate (apologies in advance for double posting).

This is going to sound like a silly question, but who stocks Benq projectors in Melbourne.

For love or money have not been able to find out this info.

As I didn't have any exisitng PJ gear, I bought a complete package from Richard at Oz Theatre in Qld. PJ, cable, scope screen, lens etc.

Ideally, I was after a 'one stop shop' which Rich was able to offer me.

Congrats Mr HP :D

I'm sure there will be many long nights of viewing coming up!

What material did you settle on for the scope screen? and is it in a flat or curved frame? (not sure if curved is available here in Oz yet  )

Cheers,

Curious

G'day Curious

Material is Evo3D. I can't comment on how good it is as I haven't anything to compare it to, and everything is setup as 'out of the box'.

I haven't even looked at tthe DVD-Essentials disc yet.

It's a flat screen. I wanted a curved screen, but I'd have to design my own as Oz Theatre haven't started manufacture of curves yet.

As it's my first screen, I went with what was available.

Interestingly, when the screen 1st went up on Saturday, I thought "bloody hell, I've done it now, look at the size of it"; but I (we) were used to it by the end of the day.

I must say that Planet Earth HD is impressive @ 94" 16:9. Can't wait to get it tweaked right. Should be something else.

Evo 3D is a very nice material - very smooth, I'm playing with a sample at the moment. Rich is a great guy to deal with :D

Might be worth catching up (we are from the same side of Melbourne after all) I have just been to see James from Cinamax and picked up his latest offering in a motorised screen

When it comes to screen size I reckon bigger is better (especially with scope) I could go 'wall to wall' and get used to it I reckon :ninja:

Well, we watched Transformers HD-DVD last night. I been holding waiting for the projector install. (:

Bloody hell, it was impressive. It was like watching a 100" plasma screen, but better!

I am yet to tweak any settings. My initial 'ho-hum' observation went away VERY quickly last night.

I must say though, that SD still looks average using my X-e1 player.

I haven't tweaked the X-e1 either.

Is there something I can tweak in the X-e1 to improve SD-DVD PQ?

Do other BenQ owners have any hints?

You will need to bypass the projectors internal scaling/DI engine with an external video processor. These can be found on eBay at the $1000+ price point.

Go into Picture on the Xe1 and turn on all the enhancements like mosquito noise reduction etc.

I would avoid changing the colour and tint etc via the dvd player, use the projector for this.

Some SD dvds dont look the best others will look very good.

Well I've had my BenQ W5000 PJ & Evo 3D screen up for a bit over a week now.

I am yet to finalise setting things up eg setting up user profiles on the PJ for different sources; but I must say I am very happy with it.

There is no way I could have achieved anything better for the money, period.

No one yet (!) has had a problem with DLP and I find it very viewable with SOME ambient light eg light on in adjoining living area.

I have also just set up a Topfield 7000 HD-STB via HDMI; so bring on the Oympics!

Great to hear MrHP, I couldn't get over the size of the lens compared to my old 8720 - 'tis a very serious looking piece of hardware :D

Glad to see someone else has a screen mounted higher up the wall similar to my own, and great use of the spare set of front speakers too! ^_^

Look forward to having you pop over to 'chez Curious' for a return chat ;)

Shhh! Rumour has it, they aren't very good. ;)

They seem to do a great job for HT, IMO.

I am definately looking forward to this. B) Will be in touch.

Shame it is not the SAME lens as in the 8720 <_<

Most of the size is the rings for focus and zoom, which do not need to be as large as they are...
