Xbox Arcade $278 At Bigw

Featured Replies

OK... I gotta admit I'm tempted... Is this a good deal, or not?

Worth taking the plunge into the RROD?

Here’s a bargain I first noticed via Kotaku. Big W are having a massive toy sale and are selling the Xbox 360 Arcade edition for an impressive $278. Includes a wireless controller, 256mb memory card, and 5 arcade games (I’m guessing games like pac-man arcade etc).

....

At that price it seems like a sin not to get it…

lol... But is that say cheaper than buying the arcade and a HDD?

If yes, I'm sold, if I can snare one that is... I suspect it's the old BigW baiting tactics..

Yeah, I wouldn't be expecting there to be a great number of them on the shelves at the time this starts.

Also this is on the MS website:

*HDMI port not available with all versions of Arcade console. Please check with your retailer.

So you may want to check the box or the console inside and make sure it has a HDMI port

Thanks..

I don't mind much if it has no HDMI port, but will be an added bonus if one is there... The strong aussie dollar finally is working it's magic, it's high time for me to contribute to the trade deficit :P If I can find one that is...

I think the 20gb Hard Drive is $78 at BigW as well. $278 + $70= $356 for your very own Pro console. Minus the remote and HD cables.

$78 for a 20Gb hard drive... Is that supposed to be cheap?

Just doing a bit of web surfing there is talk of a xbox 360 price cut soon (next week in the USA), so I reckon this arcade model might be dirt cheap or killed off soon anyway.

Hilarious isn't it? Meanwhile a 250GB hard drive for my PS3 cost me a whole $103 :)

I know... But what's funnier is the PS3 is like $200-$300 more expensive than overseas models... :( Will be sometime before I can afford to buy a PS3.. Still, great machine, that PS3... The PS3 price cuts are rumoured to come after CES, which is good I guess

Maybe it's true.

Kmart's new catalogue has the Pro version for $450.

It has to be true... :P the catalogues have spoken... The xbox arcade can't possibily go much lower than $278..

damn that is so cheap.

Arcade + 120GB drive = awesome value.

I dont know where they got info that SOME arcades dont have HDMI port?

As far as I know all 3 consoles, arcade, pro and elite are physically identical, unless they've built a newer HDMI-less one.

I think the Arcade came out when MS hasn't put in the HDMI port

so the general advice is to be careful and look at the box.

The previous article in Kotaku mentioned that some retailers

are putting refurbished 360 into the Arcade version so you need to be extra careful

if you want to get one from BigW tomorrow.

Just have a look at the manufacturing date I guess.

There was a thread over at Xboxworld AU where it was highlighted that some people had recieved a late 05 manufacture-date in an Arcade box. As the arcade bundle wasnt around in 05, its assumed that they are flogging re-furb's as new. Seemed to be limited to EB though.

The Arcade has always had the HDMI port since it was released,

it was the CORE system that never had it.

So maybe the $278 is for a CORE console, repackaged as an ARCADE console. hopefully you still get the wireless controller instead of the wired one.

I'm going to pick one up, if it isn't manufactured in 2007 and it comes without HDMI and a wireless controller I'll be calling BS and it will be getting returned.

I think people are worrying too much. They are obviously using items like these to get people in the shop so that they buy other products, I doubt they've gone to the trouble of packaging up refurb consoles.

Worrying? No.. Confused?? Yes... Buying? Probably (subject to stock availablity and MOF approval)..

My conspiracy noodles is telling me EB is letting the rumour out because they are unwilling or unable to price match... :P It's cheaper than the Wii, I say go for it.... ^_^

Just picked up a 360 arcade from BigW, I reckon get'em while their hot!!! Should've seen the rush at midnight from the door to the back of the store, no-one knew where to go as they weren't on the shelves & I ended up second in line (first xbox) of about 40 people.

Mine is a 175w (on power supply) HDMI version, HOORAY :P !!! Outside of box said 203w though.

My wife picked me one up at 6:00AM this morning, was apparently the last one at the local store.

Checked the console before I came to work, manufacture date of 17-01-2008, and it has a HDMI port.

Didn't check the power brick but the outside box had 203w like curious1's.

Forgot to mention, mine also says manufactured 17-01-2008 on the box.

Most shop's should price match BigW's deal for those that miss out.

My own chance seeing I have to work today ..... :(

Not if Big W is out of stock though most likely.

I picked one up from BigW today, and it's manufacturer date was 2006. It also doesn't have HDMI. So I"m going to be taking it back as HDMI was the major reason for picking one up. I was under the impression that all the Arcade versions had HDMI.

Latch.
