SDL Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Saw on the website today International Dynamics no longer carry Klipsch. I spoke with them and they said that Klipsch had chosen to use a warehouse company here. They mentioned they had one more shipment coming in in July but after that they had nothing to do with the Klipsch distribution. I spoke with a retailer in Melbourne who suggested it was just a change of distribution and would make no difference. Personally I wasn't looking at getting new speakers till next year but thought I might do it gradually as I want to get the RF83's, the RC64 centre and the 62 rears. Having a need for another centre now in order to move my older centre to my second setup I thought I might grab a RC64 and then get the rest of the setup next year as planned. However if the distribution changes this might mean I will have problems getting the 83's and matching up my fronts (presently I have RF35's that will work well enough for the short term). The other issue both raised is the Reference speakers might be phased out at the end of the year. This might mean some nice savings, but on their flagship speakers in the range it might be hard to guarantee getting hold of them I know this doesn't probably effect to many people but does cause a dilemma for me. Whether to grab the centre now and bank on the 83's still being around when I want them or wait, or grab the centre knowing its a damn good centre and guessing it will match with whatever Klipsch horn loaded speakers get released. Damn, had my wife sold on the fact I could spend the $1500 or so - but now not sure what to do.
Guest obee60 Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 That might answer why International Dynamics weren't at all interested in looking at the problem I presesnted them with in the form of 2 Klipsch Ifi's. I bought both my daughter's Ifi's for christmas last year. They are beaut little units consisting of a powered sub and 2 speakers. Basically an Ipod docking station that has enough power to give their doof doof music the kind of punch teenagers crave. The problem was/is, they keep blowing fuses. I took the units to Int Dynamics a couple of months ago and was greeted by a tech who was at pains to tell me they didn't support all of Klipsch's gear, but that out of the kindness of their heart's they'd have a look at them for me. I then got a phone call abot 2 days later telling me they were ready to be picked up, but that they couldn't find anything obviously wrong with the units. I doubted then and am sure now they didn't even bother removing the backs off the units. What now for all the people with Klipsch gear? Is a warehouse type distribution centre going to be interested in warranty work? The Int Dynamics people told me I should take the Ifi's back to the retailer I purchased them from. Yeah and an apple dealer is going to be interested - NOT.
el-ricardo Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Hi SDL, I would suggest grabbing what you can now, you won't be disappointed with the RC-64 but do think it is nicely matched to the RF-83's. You may be right and some bargain's may be had for the end of the year but feel that even if there is something new around the corner this speaker combination would give you many years of listening pleasure... just my five cents worth .
SDL Posted July 4, 2008 Author Posted July 4, 2008 I know its a good centre and is why I wanted to grab it, but I don't have the money for all the set at the moment, or more to the point the wife won't let me spend all the money I have for them right now. But I don't want to get the 64 then upgrade the rest next year and want to change the centre again as it doesn't match. I don't know. I probably will grab it and then if it doesn't asthetically match, it shoudl still tonally for any Klipsch horn loaded, so I can hide it a bit in the dedicated room once designed and built. Anyway to close the loop on the initial issue www.powermove.com.au are the new distributors. I contacted Klipsch who put me on to them. they and Klipsch don't seem to want to answer, or don't know, the future of the Reference series.

I was wondering why I wasn't getting much joy with a query from International Dynamics, this may be why. The RC-64 is great, but BIG and heavy. If you're worried about tonal matching maybe wait and see if they will bring out a new model. I do believe that each set is very much matched, so if a new set did come out there may be some subtle differences, IMO.
