Hi,

I have my outside speakers connected to zone 2. I can select the radio to play on zone 2 but not a CD. I am playing the CD on my BluRay player and have tried HDMI and optical to connect.

The other problem I am having is when I adjust the volume on the 3800 it does not come up with the level on the TV since I connected HDMI. When testing the CD on zone 2 I swapped to optical and the volume level still doesn't come up on the TV.

Any suggestions?

Did you read the manual?

The 1st question is answered in the manual on Page 117 (of the PDF version)

Connect the source component to the analog audio input jacks of this unit to play back the source in Zone 2 or Zone 3.

This unit does not output the audio signals input at the DIGITAL INPUT and HDMI jacks to the ZONE OUT jacks.

My underlining and bold for emphasis.

Connect the PS3 analog outs to your CD analog inputs, and set the audio option to analog on the PS3 and you should be okay.

For the second, the answer is that the short messages (including volume adjustment) do not appear in the following cases:

– when the component video signals with 720p, 1080i or 1080p

resolutions are input

– when HDMI video signals are input

Page 90 of the manual.

I guess it would be nice if it worked but I don't really need an image to tell me what my ears are hearing.

Both of these are standard features of the Yamaha range and have been this way for a number of generations.

Thanks for your reply. When I re-read the manual I was short on time and obviously skimmed over what I should have read.

Everything all sorted now.

Thanks again.
