I'm after a cheap HDMI Receiver to replace my aging Surround Sound receiver thats finally giving me problems.

Dicksmith have a Teac 5.1Ch HDMI Receiver for $249 are there any others around this price?

Tried googling but I can't find any under about $600, can't even find much on this Teac lol.

Why does it need to be HDMI?

Many/Most of the lower end HDMI receivers are merely "switches" and can't extract audio from your Bluray/HDDVD/DVD player. So you'll still need the optical/coax connection. Also means any of the newer HD audio formats won't be accessible (via PCM and definitely no onboard decoding).

If like this they probably also can't upconvert signals (i.e. SVideo in, HDMI out). So you can only output on the HDMI whatever is input on HDMI.

Thats all I want, my TV only has 1 HDMI input and I don't want to be swapping between the stb and the blu-ray player all the time when I get it.

I don't care about sound too much atm, all it has to do is run some kinda sound through my speakers instead of having it come out of the TV after all i'm still only just dolby surround atm :P

Well you won't get much cheaper than that I don't think with HDMI. A 3 into 1 half decent HDMI switcher is going to be $80-100.

At least with DSE you have a 14 day money back guarantee
