Recently grabbed an Aussie MKII from yorac (thanks again) and am in the final stages of room renovation, so its time to get serious and make some lasting decisions. Anyway, I think the lens looks a bit hazy, probably due to some of the packing material. Anyway, it needs a good clean, and was wondering what you CIH and lens users use to clean these things/ And also, how easy is it to put back together (PROPERLY) if you take it apart to clean to individual prisms?

Haze on glass parts can happen from vinyl and other plastics that house the glass... you see this on windscreen insides that haze from the dashboard. It's even worse with high heat environments...

There can also be other reasons... like cigarette smoke, oil vapour haze from cooking if it's near a kitchen...

Clean it with methanol... best stuff for lens cleaning.

I've not got a set-up as you describe, but I'd head down to your local photography store. Ask them about lens cleaning equipment as they normally have a huge range. There are some polishing 'pens', I'd avoid those. If it were me I'd go with some methanol as phreek suggests, but spend a few bucks on a quality lens cleaning cloth. But, before I'd touch it, I'd just check if its ok to do with the maker of them.

MarkH, I've asked MarkT the same question before.... and he recommended.... the Big Fat Greek Answer .... WINDEX!!

It should be ok on the Aussiemorphic II because there is no optical coating.

I thought the MkII lenses were coated?

Hi guys,

Yes windex is fine so long as the cloth you use is soft and does not scratch as you do not want to scratch off the optic coating on the MKII prims. The coating tneds to give the prisms a green look when turned into the light...
