Happy to oblige: 1. Barco Cine 9 2. Sony G90 3. Marquee 9500LC/Ultra 4. Barco 1209S 5. Barco Cine 8 6. Sony G70 7. Sony XG (LC) 8. NEC 10PG 9. Barco 1209 10. Marquee 9000

yamapro Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Perhaps a top ten list under $10k and suitable for a one man (woman) lift would be a more useful request for the masses...

The rest I'd probably agree with, although I never saw a Barco 812 or 912, I suspect they'd make your list. Edited June 28, 2008 by dyates69
avalon27 Posted June 28, 2008 Author Posted June 28, 2008 so it looks like crt is still king and no digitals in sight. how much can you get a cine9 for thesedays?
dyates69 Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 so it looks like crt is still king and no digitals in sight. how much can you get a cine9 for thesedays? I haven't seen one for less than $20k. The 909 is more affordable (about $15k) and similarly specced, but sounds like a jet engine. There's a cheap G90 going here though!
The_Preacher1973 Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 so it looks like crt is still king and no digitals in sight. how much can you get a cine9 for thesedays? Curt's got a couple of 909's with HQF900's available now for $10K. Curt Palme My list was a bit of a joke. I'm sure the digital boys will post their lists shortly. If I had to do a digital list it'd go like this: 1. JVC HD100 2. JVC HD1 3. Sony VW60 4. Sony VW40 I find RBE on single chip DLP's too distracting for long term viewing and have never been impressed with Lowest Commom Digital projectors so it's a pretty short list.

Just cut and pasted from Curt's site. I didn't agree with the positioning of the 1209 either.

MACCA350 Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 1. JVC HD1002. JVC HD1 3. Sony VW60 4. Sony VW40 I'd agree with that list, and the HD100 is at the top of the list for our next upgrade........until something better comes along before we're ready cheers
avalon27 Posted June 29, 2008 Author Posted June 29, 2008 where would a optoma 81lv be on the list then? top ten
The_Preacher1973 Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 where would a optoma 81lv be on the list then? top ten It's a bit hard to say. The four main projection technologies are simply different rather than being "better". You really need a list for CRT (check), a list for LCOS/SXRD (check), a list for DLP and a list for LCD. Each technology has its pros and cons and people are generally going to favour one over the other. Your best bet is to read the various reviews on projectorreviews.com, audition as many PJ's as you can and make up your own mind.
Hydrology Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 If I had to do a digital list it'd go like this:1. JVC HD100 2. JVC HD1 3. Sony VW60 4. Sony VW40 I personally would rate the VW60 ever so slightly above the HD1 - I was tossing up between these two but found the Sony better suited than the JVC in my setup. However the JVC was the first digital PJ that I said "Wow" out loud when I first saw it last year.
MACCA350 Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I personally would rate the VW60 ever so slightly above the HD1It's ok Mark, we know you love your VW60 cheers

Hydrology Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 It's ok Mark, we know you love your VW60 cheers Seriously though, these type of threads are useless and personal preference (and ownership) play into it. If we want to take this thread serious, and the "ladder" is purely based on performance, then CRT wins by a HUGE margin. Simple as that.

Actually some of the guys at the AVS forums have replaced there CRT with Digital projectors.so i don't know where your getting this huge margin from.

So "some' means ALL now? As a JVC owner I fully expect you to agree with the list Franin and as a VW60 owner you probably expect me to disagree with the list unless the Sony is at top, but truth be told both brands dont hold a candle to what a fully calibrated 6PG or G90 can do. Ive been lucky to view HD1, G90 and 6PG in my time and I can vouch for my opinion. And of course there's always the blend option (Gino - roll call!) Am I suggesting the HD1/100 or VW60 are poor in comparison? Of course not. In fact unless I moved from my current home I could never accomodate a CRT in my theatre. However thats not a reason to forget they exist for the purposes of a "ladder". Edited June 29, 2008 by MarkH

Your best bet is to go and have a look for yourself and let your eyes be the judge. You have a list to work with now but also look at others there is alot out there.Eveyone has different opinions on whats good but you know your budget and you might be able to get a $12,000 - $14,000 projector down to $10,000. BTW if your happy with the Optoma 81lv go for it, your choice.

The guys that have actually moved to digital are some of the guys I guess Gino knows in the AVS that are in the same league as Gino.im not saying they moved to JVC well one did Don Kellog but Art Sonneborn moved to a 3 chip DLP from a CRT and from what i read he is very happy.I know gino setup is awesome but my comment based on you saying CRT wins by a HUGE margin As a JVC owner I fully expect you to agree with the list Franin and as a VW60 owner you probably expect me to disagree with the list unless the Sony is at top [edited by DTV Forum Mod] I did not look on whos on top that was a list done for the member to have a look at the good projectors out there under $10k, Whats that go to with CRT and what i said? members like you piss me off because you take one thing and turn into another. just to let evryone know before they all have a go im not saying that CRT is bad but digital has evolved so much that I've been told that it's getting close to CRT.So that where my comment huge margin comes from.
