I have heard various stories scattered around these threads about copy protection on Foxtel. At present, we have an IQ1 and a standard non-IQ box. We are booked in for an upgrade on 9th July when the IQ1 will be replaced with an IQ2 and the IQ1 will be moved upstairs to replace the standard non-IQ box.

A couple of questions for those of you who have already been upgraded:

1) On the IQ2 can you output via component to a DVD recorder unit for recording onto DVD?

2) On the IQ1, currently it outputs and records just fine. Is there any truth to the rumours that when they come to do an upgrade, Foxtel change the card and this no longer allows recording?

If (2) is true, then I am tempted to move the IQ1 unit upstairs myself and swap it with the standard box before they get here. Then when Foxtel get here, I'll just tell them to leave the IQ1 alone and just replace the standard box with an IQ2.

I would be interested in answers to these question as well ... if I cant record onto my Pana HDD (for burning to DVD) they've got buckleys chance of upgrading me to IQ2.

If I pay for the service I have a right to also record those programmes ... no more than one would ask from FTA programming.

I can understand a resistance to allowing recording from Box Office but not normal programming including Showtime & Movie Network.
