Just over a month out and still no word yet about the Olympics being in HD for us regionals..... what's the bet we get screwed over again. If the HD decoders haven't been setup by now, there's no way they will give us the Olympics commercial free.

PRIME is doing the Olympics, and considering that they are giving Regional Viewers all of 7's HD Multichanneling, I'd say you're in with a high Chance of the Olympics being in HD through PRIME.

It will be interesting to see how 7HD is going to tackle the Olympics considering they are only allowed 50hrs a week in HD

there's no limit in how much HD the networks can do, if they want to provide native HD 24/7 365 days a year, there's nothing stopping them, the only requirements for HD is that they are not upscaled from SD and that they have to broadcast a minimum 1040 hours of HD per year (about 3 Hours per day)

I have nothing but praise for Prime, they said we would be getting the multi-channel and we have, they do show some good HD movies and they do give us alternate programming on the weekend (unlike SC10...sorry need that other topic..). I am hoping that they give the type of Olympic coverage that they didduring the last Olympics, with the addition of some in HD.

The bad news for Tassie is that Southern Cross is the channel 7 & 10 outlet down here. The recent music update on that bloody endless loop that they think is the only thing anyone wants to see in HD would indicate that it going to be around so some time yet. So we look certain to miss out yet again. <_<

Yeah, I don't see Southern Cross in Tassie being ready for the Olympics either. You'd think there would be a few people buying a new HD set for the Olympics only to be confronted with the dreaded loop.

I will take the bet we get screwed over......

While i applaud Prime for being the only regional channel to have offered any effort for regional users.

For the last 2months at least PrimeHD seems to be doing a lot more upscaled SD... Maybe I'm just missing out on those shows, but I have not seen the PrimeHD

logo for quite sometime. Saturday Night movies were often HD, but have lately been SD.

Also the lack of TIVO being sold in this region for the Olympics for regional users, would indicate to me it doesn't look good for HD broadcast.

Even on this "7HD Olympic Break-Away" (by McDonalds) I noticed they are all SD stuff..

I hope Prime do broadcast here in HD, because SC10's poor commitment to this region should be shamed by Prime.

And i would hope it would cost SC10 a lot in advertising to have all regional HD viewers locked to SevenHD for a couple of weeks.

As a business owner i certainly would not be advertising on SC10 in comparison. :)

This sounds like the best use of FTA multichannelling yet. Good on them for turning over ABC2 to the full-time coverage.

(Except maybe during the ceremonies ... what's the big idea with ABC2 there? Maybe they have a separate feed? But I doubt it).

Happy to say that Southern X have confirmed over the phone that they will show the games in HD. Only bad news is that there will be no increase in bitrate so 13Mbps is it. But still better than nothing. Now if only they would come to the party and starting showing the AFL in HD too.

Good news, but I'll believe it when I see it. Is SX broadcasting at 1440x1080i or 1920x1080i?

1440x1080i at 13Mbps will be very average with fast motion. I would hate to think what 1920x1080 would look like. They would be much better off going 1280x720p with that bitrate. I guess the bigger number always sounds better even if it looks shite.

Don't encourage them to use 1280x720p. They have native 1080i content and don't have the equipment to convert it to progressive, not properly. They should be considering 1280x1080i instead.

I hope PRIME do show it in HD from the 7 source but considering their AFL coverage is still in SD while 7 lately broadcasts the same game in HD it might not happen.

Wonder what the SBS coverage is going to show up as?
