Hey All,

Looking for a good quality upscaling dvd player (to 1080p) that I can connect via HDMI to my CIH set-up.

I love my CIH set up and although I don't watch too many movies with subtitles it has started to annoy me now and then....eg Munich and 30 days of Night. These films have just the occasional subtitle (off the screen) so then its either flip ratios constantly or give in and and sit there watching something in 1/2 the size i could normally. Insane making.

But i'm told that dvd players exist where I can select where the subtitles appear on screen...so that those of us with CIH can get the words to appear off the black bars and higher in the picture.

So if anyone knows of a good player that does this...i'd love to know. In particualr i was thinking about something like an oppo...but i'm not sure if they do it....

thanks in advance. :)

The oppo doesn't support it at this time, however they have indicated they would upgrade the frimware to add it if enough interest is shown. I'd shoot them an email asking.

D-Train - Constant Image Height. It's the same prinicple as the cinema where the image is the same height regardless of aspect ratio. You just draw the curtains a little. It has the effect of removing any top and bottom black bars which means movies with subtitles in those areas are hard to watch.

I love the Oppo 983 and it does vertical stretch which is nice :-) Plus great video and audio handling. However, no subtitle moving :-( I asked Oppo about it and they basically said, they'd like to have it and have done some work on it, but not a huge priority and difficult to get right as the chip maker doesn't support it.

Or something like that :-)
