xtractdigit Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Just had a look at the new Pana VIERA TX-37LZD850A . It is the best picture of any panel I have ever seen. have you an opinion.
brodricj Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Care to elaborate for the benefit of those of us who haven't seen it?? Provide some more meaningful input?
jagg Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 (edited) where did u see it....cant find it anywhere ? Edited June 24, 2008 by jagg
xtractdigit Posted June 24, 2008 Author Posted June 24, 2008 Sorry, posted in a hurry. It was in a Betta store but I dont want to say where. It was the best image I have seen on any panel to date. Of course it lokked best from bluray via hdmi, almost 3 d. The HD loop looked as good as I have seen it. Sd looked better than normal a on a hd panel. Anyone that cant tell the diff between 1080p and 1080i on this screen from even 3 m is blind.
RabidWolve Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 If they made a 46inch id buy it in a second. Panasonic make great LCD panels. My 32inch 600 model still makes me happy.
brodricj Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I still can't find this panel anywhere in Perth. I've tried Myer, DJ's and HN. DJ's quoted price $2335 but aren't getting any stock for demo until they've cleared more of older product. If anyone has seen these in Perth please let me know, with price.
kulfi Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Wow or Bow Wow Wow ? $2300-plus for a 37" LCD is way, way, way, way too expensive. You can buy a 40" Sony Bravia for a lot less, with a free PS3 thrown in. Or the Samsung 46" A550 with a free BluRay player. 37" for $2300.
mwd Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 (edited) Sorry, posted in a hurry. Anyone that cant tell the diff between 1080p and 1080i on this screen from even 3 m is blind. A bold claim indeed please explain Is the Deinterlacer that baad ?. Or is it just the lowly bitrate of HDTV compared to BD discs you can see ? Most would say it is hard to spot much/any difference between 1080P and i. Edited July 24, 2008 by mwd
brodricj Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Panasonic are showing a list price of $2,899 RRP for this panel! http://panasonic.com.au/products/details.cfm?objectID=4362
kulfi Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Panasonic are showing a list price of $2,899 RRP for this panel! List prices and RRPs mean nothing these days. Check out the price threads and you'll see that the street price is way below the RRP.
dumadiscount Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 What is the difference between the 800A and the 850?
brodricj Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 I just called my local Retravision store. They have this panel but won't price match the DJ's price of $2335, they reckon it's too cheap. So the price must be OK??
rareairunc Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 I believe the main difference to be one less hdmi on the 800 and a better sound system on the 850
jagg Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Got a price of $2097 at the gg frankston for the 37LZD850A...
kulfi Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Got a price of $2097 at the gg frankston for the 37LZD850A... Still paying a lot more for a lot less, aren't we ? Why doesn't someone wake up and realise that 40" Full HD LCDs are going for around $2000 with super freebies thrown in ? It's not as if the Panasonic brand name is solid gold that it can command such an insane premium. Heck, even Sony doesn't. Guess there are people out there who are willing to feed Pana's pockets so who am I to complain ?
brodricj Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Got a price of $2097 at the gg frankston for the 37LZD850A... That's a good price, GG in O'Connor won't match it!
Legoman Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Saw the 37LZD800A yesterday, looks pretty much the same panel minus one hdmi as previously stated. Sweet looking panel, arguably the best picture in the store. $1997 was ticket price at the Good Guys, less for cash. Seriously considering getting this one. Salesman talked himself out of a sale stating to me that there will be price drop withing two months. Hope he's correct.
brodricj Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 That's the every day price for the 800A, still trying to find a better price than $2335 for the 850A in Perth.
dumadiscount Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 harvey norman indro 37 800A - $1949 32 800A - $1599 with 5 year warranty
3DHD Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 JB Hifi in Parramatta, Sydney has quoted me $2,100 delivered for the Panasonic VIERA TX-37LZD850A. The reason this panel is so expensive is that it is both 100Hz and supports X.V.Colour Space.....the panels that are 40" which support these features eg Sony X, XBR series are closer to the $3,000 mark. Other than the Sony X,XBR in 40" there are no lcd panels from any other manufacturer in either the 37" or 40" size that i am aware of that support both 100Hz and X.V.Colour Space. If there is please provide manufacturer/model no and web link if possible.
3DHD Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 I believe the main difference to be one less hdmi on the 800 and a better sound system on the 850 The main difference is that the 850z supports a wider colour gammut as it supports the x.v.colour space like the Sony x,xbr series for its 40" plus larger panels
brodricj Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 I bought this panel (37inch Viera -850A) at Myer, $2200. Many other stores wouldn't price match at this point so I'm happy with the price. The display is primarily used for the kids to watch FOXTEL. The PQ out of the box is very good, I tried a quick calibration with DVD Video Essentials but for some reason the panel is not showing the btb bars for brightness setting so there's not much point going any further. I'll do a proper calibration after I buy a HDMI cable long enough to reach my VP50Pro scaler (the scaler has a multitude of display calibration features). I thought this panel had RGB setting controls for proper gamma setting but it seems this feature only applies on the PC input. The calibration settings seem to be global only and not per input. The owners manual is dread awful, woeful, over simplistic. For a panel of this quality the owners manual needs to be far more comprehensive. The remote is inconsequential for me as I'll be using the TSU9600 Pronto Pro touch panel. PQ from the internal digital TV tuner is very good, analog is not so good. Haven't worked out yet how to switch off 100Hz which I won't be needing for signals coming from the 50Pro. The TV won't tell you what the input signal is, other than 1080P, 720P, 576I etc. I'd like more info here like 1080P24 just to be sure exactly what signal is going to it. I suppose I've been spoiled with a VP to tell me all this before. I plugged the PS3 into it and the PQ at 1080P BR was excellent, with only slight judder on panning scenes. Then I realized the PS3 wasn't outputting 24Hz so I changed that and the motion judder was gone. Very smooth, actually the PQ for BR was sensational bearing in mind the panel hasn't been calibrated yet. I haven't tested the internal DI capability for SD material, I'll run the VRS test disc later and see how that goes. But initial impression is SD DI is OK but could be better. Again, I've been spoiled up to now with video scalers doing all the heavy duty DI (and scaling) work. The SQ is quite good, actually good enough for me not to be tempted to feed audio through my high-end sound system (for TV watching). In summary, this panel has exceeded my expectations. My normal display is a $15k system (DVDO scaler, ISF calibrated BenQ PE8720 projector, and Stewart screen) but the PQ of the Viera is so "watchable" I haven't felt the need to switch on the projector. The kids watch FOXTEL during the day on the Viera, and I take control of it at night!! I'll post a review in the review section after I've set it up properly.
