satz1503559559 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 hi all I have a Sony DVD Recorder connected via HDMI to my Pioneer 508 xda plasma. The Pioneer max resolution is I think 768 The output resolution on the Sony via HDMI defaults to 1080i. Has the TV somehow 'told' the DVD player the optimum resolution to use? Would this be the best setting to leave it at, or should I 'manually' set it to 768, or even 1080p? many thanks Satz
cabernet Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Pioneer 508 accepts HD as well as Full HD ie 768, 1080i, 1080p. It "knows" what and how to deal with it. You just need to see which settings turns out better. I set my DVD HDMI output to 756. Although I cannot see any difference for other settings. I think you will find that the Pio downscales to 720 not 768. But the bottom line is, try the other settings and see for yourself. If you can't detect a difference, then don't sweat it.
