Serpeant Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I have a room of about 6x4m. When I turn up the amp, my windows rattle. It's my sub - Krix Siesmix 5. Is there an inexpensive way to fix this? Do I just need to seal my windows? Can you please recommend me a product?
joz Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Apart from screwing them down maybe try some of that window gap sealant, not silicon glue but the strips that stop drafts. It may be enough to fill the gaps therefore no rattles.
Shonky* Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 (edited) I don't know about sealing the gaps (i.e. just to fix the rattle problem). If you do that you will increase the sound pressure in the room potentially making the windows rattle more. It depends exactly "how" they rattling. If it's the sliding window part rattling in the frame, sealing the gaps around the frame won't help. Edited June 24, 2008 by Shonky*
Inego1503560167 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 I find that little bits of cardboard folded and jammed into the frame work - to an extent. It's better, but I'm still trying to work out a fix for the window next to my sub. Mind you, the planes taking off rattle it too..... Kent
MACCA350 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 I was able to fix some annoying rattles by using silicon. The windows are in an aluminium frame and some of the rubber that was used to seal them was deteriorated and causing the glass to vibrate on the aluminum itself. I simply ran a bead of silicon, forcing in into the gaps. cheers

Serpeant Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 The rattle is starting to bug me now, so what ws the best solution? Silicon or not? As I said before, I see water leaking in so I assume the windows arent sealed properly.

The D-Train Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 From a quick look through the thread I cant see it addressed (may be blind) but is your sub up too high. Mine used to rattle the windows and walls but when I calibrated the sound found I had way too much volume on it. I didnt think so just to the ear. Once I had it set at the appropriate level all that stopped. cheers
JAL Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 (edited) My windows and doors plus doors outside the dedicated room also rattle when I put my Rel B3 to 20hz and playing the LOTR trilogy movies. Anyway, been fixed by applying the silicone but still can hear bit rattles which I can lived Edited September 2, 2008 by JAL
slugger Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 I remember checking out some speakers in Myer Melbourne city store 10-12 years ago. Salesman asked this other customer if he had good speakers. He said "yeah, they've broken the windows twice". Reminded me of Judge Reinhold in Ruthless People. 1
