Spearmint Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Well it looks like we may end up with a user friendly bass management system finally, with SVS and Audyssey releasing a standalone unit for two subwoofers. Tentative pricing in the US is $750.00, the units are currently being field tested before release. http://www.svsound.com/CES2007/SVS_AudyessyRelease.pdf

Now how do I sneak one of these in in the future. Nice to see stereo accomodated.

There has been a bit of talk over on AVS for quite a while (has its own thread), but it looks like its getting close now for release with SVS putting it in their last newsletter.

What I'm getting has calibration built in, so I guess I need to weigh up the benefit. The calibration works only in a master/slave configuration, so this would be of benefit when set up for stereo, which is what I was looking at doing. Off to AVS I go

What I'm getting has room correction built in, so its the stereo capability that appeals. Need to weigh up the cost/benefit. Damn it's hard to just post a reply at the moment
joz Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 This looks like a very nice unit,I wonder when we'll see it and how much??
OzMillsy Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 The TACT 2.2 does all this, except for the whole freq range, not just the bass. But this one is alot more affordable. Good to see this kind of digital processing technology creep more and more into the home audio space. Wont be long now, until we see these features (and more) built into 2 channel products, as the norm rather than the exception.
joz Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 (edited) Heres another little something that was recommened to me by a pro audio shop.. KRK ERGO Room Fixer?? Edited June 24, 2008 by the joz

Some how I don’t think this will happen for quite some time, even today not all 2ch pre’s have a HT bypass feature, and some no remote control. Edited June 24, 2008 by Spearmint
Spearmint Posted June 24, 2008 Author Posted June 24, 2008 Heres another little something that was recommened to me by a pro audio shop..KRK ERGO Room Fixer?? That could also be worth looking at, are these available in Oz?
joz Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 That could also be worth looking at, are these available in Oz? They are just about here,I spoke to the distributers they said they are running abit behind. The price I got from the disributer was about $1k but the pro shop said it'd be about $8-850?? We'll wait and see..
OzMillsy Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Some how I don’t think this will happen for quite some time, even today not all 2ch pre’s have a HT bypass feature, and some no remote control. There will always be 2 channel equipment that takes a simple is best approach. No bells, no whistles, no idea that the source is digital. Take a analog input, and cleanly apply volume control. But as digital music downloads become a mainstream method of distribution, more and more products will hit the market, that optimises playback of the digital source, on your equipment and in your room. Is this a decade away? I dont know, but things are moving quickly.

Seems like it will be sensibly priced! The second sub, well that could be the expensive part.

Wouldnt any subs be somewhat redundant, when you're already running a 2 channel speaker system containing 4 x 10" woofer drivers that effortlessly go to 20Hz ?
betty boop Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 great find spearmint. certainly a very affordable item and good to see it has pc capability for more advanced setup as well. should be a good option for many I imagine

Spearmint Posted June 24, 2008 Author Posted June 24, 2008 great find spearmint. certainly a very affordable item and good to see it has pc capability for more advanced setup as well. should be a good option for many I imagine What has got me so excited about this product is the fact it’s designed from the ground up for two inputs unlike the Audyssey sub unit and the Velodyne SMS1 which are designed for one input, and multiple out, i.e. with HT in mind only.

OzMillsy Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 I'll still have my two 12" and two 15" subs to control. A wise man once told me, there is no such thing as too much bass. If I had a cement slab, I might agree. But the wooden floorboards underneath my carpetted floor dont necessarily agree. That being said, I simply cant wait to order some stereo subs.

OzMillsy Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Same setup as mine... 'Click' The beechwood finish really is nice, isnt it. How did you previously integrate your subs into this system?
