I keep reading different answers for this so I'm hoping someone here actually has tried or does use it. I'm waiting for my new 50" Kuro plasma to come so need to know if i should get a VGA cable to get 1080p.

Thanks.

I "believe" that the 360 can only do 1080p over VGA, I will check and confirm..... :D J.

Actually I better add that I'm aware that for movies and HD-DVD 1080p is only accepted via VGA and HDMI due to restrictions but im mainly interested in if gaming and dashboard is available.

Ok it appears that the dashboard will stay at 1080p over component but for HD-DVD play will convert back to 1080i for HDCP reasons.

It appears that "if your TV will allow 1080p over component" the 360 will allow gameplay and dashboard to show 1080p over component.

However, as above, the HD-DVD player is restricted to 1080i over component. If you have a d-sub/vga option on your TV might pay to go that way........

(Cant tell you how much I personally hate HDCP    )

Hope that helps, J. :)

There is a restriction in place for 1080p over component for movies, some law or something.

As such the 360 will do 1080p for games over component but will resort to playing DVDs at native 576p. If you have a VGA port that supports 1080p though I would go that route as then it will upscale DVD to 1080p and like HDMI it also unlocks the extra options in the dashboard for tweaking the colour settings. These are just three additional settings for setting black levels depending on how well your monitor/TV can handle the VGA colours. I think they're something like normal, moderate and extended.

Just pick the one that gives the best depth of colour and shadows.

Awesome thanks guys! Heaps of help and just what i needed to know. Now i just have to hope that the Kuro accepts 1080p via component. Please do!! :)

Oh and I might grab a VGA cable and test it out as might as well use the upscaling etc if the Kuro likes it.
