Eth Nick Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 (edited) It's been happening since forever for me, so I thought i'd see if it's my STB (LG LST-5402P) or if it's SBS HD in general. It normally happens within about the first 15 minutes of switching to SBS HD - black screens (no picture/audio) of 1.5 seconds will pop up randomly & then slowly end, before starting up again later on @ differing times. No other HD channel does this. Anyone else cop it? Edited June 19, 2008 by Ralfi

Happens on sd also. It does not occur on the inbuilt tuner in my plasma. The black screen is due to electrical interference I think.
alanh Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Ralfi, Does it do it on SBS SD as well at around the same time? Try changing from channel 30 to 3 to find out. AlanH
Dork(original) Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 (edited) It happens to me and i also have the LG.I watch 31 and not 3.That fixes it for me. Paul. Edited June 19, 2008 by Paul_
MrCurlyWhirly Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Ralfi, I have a similar issue with SBS HD, however I rarely watch the channel now that it has become ad central. Still need the regular fix of Top Gear though. The first 10 minutes of the show seems to have a similar issue with audio/video signal dropping intermittently using the internal tuner on a Pioneer Kuro LX508, i always put it down to flakey signal strength (I'm in the far outer suburbs of Brisbane). Sometimes its just the audio, sometimes both with a black screen, it seems to settle down fine eventually, seems like the tuner has problems locking onto the signal. It has not concerned me enough to look into it at any depth.. Cheers,

My impression is that it always happens at the beginning of programs or just after a break, suggesting that it has something to do with a change from their presentation into the transmission system. Strange though that it usually happens twice or three times in quick succession. A flash to black usually means that the demux chip resets itself, this can be caused by all sorts of issues from 'holes' in the transport stream to PTS's going too far out causing a buffer under- or overflow. Would be interesting to hear of any STB's other than LG's suffering the same symtoms... Cheers Rusty

I've recently noticed while timeshifting SBS HD, that audio cuts back to the "live" program after about a minute, while the video remains timeshifted, so I can't really do that. Shame that you have to go to an even poorer picture quality to get a stable reception, but i'll check it out this theory. Curly Wurlys' Pioneer tuner does it, so that tells me it's not the STB, but at SBS' end. Edited June 19, 2008 by Ralfi

There is reportedly a firmware upgrade that solves the problem. I imagine that the STBs with the same problems have a similar issue, but it would be up to the manufacturers to come up with a fix.

Just had my Pioneer firmware updated to fix the SBS and 7HD drop outs. Tested whilst technician was here and seems fine. Will know more after watching for a longer period but others have mentioned that this fixed the issue.
