Ok I have a Pioneer Kuro 508xda on order (which I may get before I get too old ) and I'm in the process of setting up my TV room. I am getting the TV wall mounted and and have requested the option where they put the wires down through the wall cavity. So my question is what should sort of set up should I put together to get the best use of my TV. Also I want to ensure that I get the appropriate cables inserted now even if I don't have all the equipment in yet.

  • I have a Pioneer sound sysetm which I want to connect - I think via optical cable

  • I currently have standard (non HD) DVD recorder but I presume playing DVD's through this will be stupid. So I'm considering either a PS3 because it has a Blu Ray player or a HD DVD recorder - which should I go with? I presume I should have a HDMI cable attached as a minimum

  • I also have Foxtel but not in this TV room - should I get Foxtel Multi Room installed or try and connect both rooms using the one connection. Truth is I won't often want to watch different foxtel channels in different rooms at the same time so its really not worth the extra ongoing monthly charge for Multi Room. But I am not technically savvy so I don't know how hard this will be if I don't go Multi Room - and I want to get all the calibration and cables sorted out when Pioneer install my TV

  • Is there anything else I'm missing - I just want to at least have all the relevant cables set up so that I can connect other equipment as I get it.

I expect to watch mostly DVDs and some sport in this room but some other Foxtel would probably be good.

Thanks

Donny

GO with a ps3 i reckon :D , and course do it by hdmi and optical to your sound

Foxtel is ultimately your call, granted how much you intend to use it

The only downside I see for the PS3 is that I sometimes record stuff of the TV so a PS3 won't be much good here - but then again I still have the other TV and DVD recorder and I don't know how much HD I want to record

You are right though Foxtel is my big question. How easy is it to get the same signal channelled into both rooms? The ongoing monthly cost of the multiroom puts me off tbh.

Umm it depends on how you do it ultimately, i did it a while ago with a giant coax cable (not the best picture i know yes blah blah blah) to a shitty little tv in my actual bedroom and it costs sub 50$ (EASILY) long component cables cost more granted, but then there the wireless option i think the 5.8 ones are sub $200 now, what sorta distance if you were to cable it would it require? Longer cables do diminish signal quality as does the wireless generally. Would be much better if the pioneer had the primary connection and the other tv was secondary, unless the other tv is a lx50 :P

upsides of ps3 : blueray + gta =win

There would be no point running cables to the new TV if the quality sufferred and also its a fair distance between rooms with the kitchen in between so cabling could be very messy

How good is the reception from the wireless system and do they work through walls?

You could go through the roofing, or under depending on the situation, but yes generally cabling is messy i only did it because there was a way of connecting it easily that way.

In regards to wireless systems hopefully someone will be able to provide you with a better idea as i've sold a couple but never personally used one or seen the results, but from my understanding you would want one of the 5.8ghz ones. They do work through walls, but obviously brick homes limit their range and signal strength.

But ultimately stop worrying its not like you will ever get your pioneer :P
