GWW Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I've got a 40 inch bravia XBR and just got my IQ2 today. Curious how everyone has their Foxtel setup? I've been tweaking and playing for about an hour. But would like to try other peoples setups. Anyone else seem to have a bit of audio lag too? I can't seem to find a decent synch. Like some channels look fine, and some seem off a bit.

It doesn't really matter your retina's would be burnt out by running your display so bright. Vivid really is designed only to be used in a showroom with very bright lighting. I have modified Cinema very slightly and really liking the results. Vivid also doesn't display the full resolution of the display there is an american review that covers this.

I use passthrough on a Pio 508 XDE (not the LX one) as this is widely regarded as being one of the best plasmas for handling SD material. I find it excellent at this - I guess the little bits of silicon in the Pio are just that bit better than the ones on the Pace box. As for settings I use some custom ones I got from avforums in UK sligthly tweaked. Oh I wish I got ISF'd! Each to their won of course.

dc_macca Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 40" X series Bravia via HDMI HD looks great but SD channels look worse than before -- not happy jan
sirhc55 Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Samsung 40" HD panel. Using an Onkyo 705 for control. The IQ2 feeds HDMI into a Gefen HOMETS scaler and the Onkyo HDMI out feeds to the Samsung. I’m also feeding the TOSLINK out from the IQ2 into the Onkyo. The scaler is in the picture because I’m also feeding 2 Samsung HDD DVR units through to the panel, along with a PS3 and Toshiba HD-DVD XA2 unit. The XA2 has been firmware modified for all regions including PAL. My experience with the normal channels from Foxtel is that the PQ is certainly much better than the old IQ, and that’s without my glasses
Brad.. Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 im using YHT-195 5.1 Channel Home Theatre Package from yamaha
re-boot Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 (edited) 40" X series Bravia via HDMIHD looks great but SD channels look worse than before -- not happy jan Me too, but channels seem fine. I've noticed though that if set to auto it's displayed in 1080, and is noticably softer (although smoother), than if set to pass through, where it is displayed in 576 and looks exactly the same as my IQ1. EDIT- You having the same issue as I'm having here? http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtop...0&start=200 Edited June 19, 2008 by re-boot

Cheers for that, i had a quick play with the settings however to me the picture still looks sepia/washed out but i dont expect the settings to be the same and look the same for two different engines I currently am using Vivid with the back light turned down as i dont have enough time to fiddle and get everything looking good with manual settings. I will play more next week when i have some free time and let you know how i go
Paranoid666au Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 (edited) At the moment I have the iQ2 hooked up to the NEC 50" plasma via HDMI to DVI. And it's connected to Yamaha 5.1 amp via coax. The image is a bit wash out for me, I'm not sure how I can fix it. It's perfectly fine with the Beyonwiz, Toshiba HD DVD and everything else I plug into the tv but the iQ2 is just washed out for some reason. They're all going into the one DVI connections via a HDMI switch. I'll have to play around with settings some more on the plasma. Edited June 27, 2008 by Paranoid666au

Paranoid666au Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I was able to improve the picture buy adjusting the gamma. I set mine to 3. It looks quite good actually. I've yet to see what effect it's had on the other devises though.

One bug I have is that the Sony system setup menu for HDMI says "no HDMI devices found". I get a similar message when looking under the External Input menu for HDMI Devices (it's actually greyed out). Clearly the HDMI is working, why doesn't Sony recognize IQ2 as an HDMI device? Not a big problem but it is annoying me. Anyone else seen this on their IQ2 + Bravia set up? Steve

Thats only for Sony things (PS3, blue ray players and so on) and possibly some other things that have decided to support the Sony feature. My bravia does exactly the same thing. Shonky* Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 You are talking about the options that allow the TV to be turned on with HDMI devices?Thats only for Sony things (PS3, blue ray players and so on) and possibly some other things that have decided to support the Sony feature. My bravia does exactly the same thing. It's not just for Sony things at all. It's a feature called HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronic Control). All the brands are calling it different names e.g. Anynet (Samsung), Aquos Link (Sharp), BRAVIA Theatre Sync (Sony), Kuro Link (Pioneer), Regza Link (Toshiba), RIHD (Onkyo), Simplink (LG), Viera Link/EZ-Sync (Panasonic/JVC), Easylink (Philips) NetCommand for HDMI (Mitsubishi) So they don't seem interested in making them compatible with each other. That said, Onkyo for example claim compatibility with a couple of other manufacturers. So you might get lucky with the odd component working here or there. At the end of the day, it's not really a big deal and a universal remote can easily provide the all functions and much more.
