larry42 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 (edited) I have been using the eneloop AA and AAA low self discharge batteries for various high drain kids toys and low drain remotes around the house, and they work great (they come fully charged) as i hate the damage that leaking batteries can cause..so no more alkalines for me... if you use a lot of batts then rechargables are quite convenient, but the past, the self discharge rate of normal rechargables was a real problem.... The eneloop are very good quality low discharge NiMH batteries (so they last a really long time in remote controls, where normal NiMh self discharge too quickly) , however the imedion batteries are even slightly better capacity (and they look great with black and silver , if that matters to you ). You can also get them from http://servaas.com.au/aaaaa-batteries-c-33.html here in australia at a great price. http://thomasdistributing.com/ has got the cheapest AA and AAA eneloop or imedion rechargable batteries, ...... The eneloops on thomas are a LOT cheaper than DSE here in australia, they work great, they come fully charged, and they don't self discharge like normal NiMH batts. There is a lot of info on the servaas and thomas sites, as well as the whirlpool and candlepower forums on this charger and the eneloop and imedion batts. I am looking at getting one of the Maha MH-9000 chargers. This charger is the most sophisticated charger for rechargable AA/AAA batts on the market....The postage to australia from thomas isn't cheap, however if you put a larger order together then it becomes quite worthwhile. You can also get all of these from servaas in australia (who have great service ) but thomas is cheaper for a larger order. I thought the above info might be of interest to people here on the forum.... Edited June 17, 2008 by larry

Never really new there were better options out there. Definitely worth a look.
quijibo Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 These are the only rechargable batteries I bother with. The prices are outstanding for the performance. The capacity may not be exactly as stated but they outperform every other battery I have ever used. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10730 http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.7729 And the charger I use which is brilliant if you leave a computer running all the time is this one. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.67 The charger can also power a USB device or even charge a Nokia phone with 4 batteries inside it.

sold Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 (edited) What is the difference between these two batteries performance wise? One is AA the other AAA. The AA should last 2.4 times as long as the AAA. Just found someone who tested the AA to only be ~1850mAh, which wouldn't surprise me. Cheap rechargeables often have way overstated capacities. http://ukcaving.com/board/index.php?topic=5205.0;all Edited June 17, 2008 by sold
larry42 Posted June 17, 2008 Author Posted June 17, 2008 (edited) falloutboy, yes, those nimh batts are quite cheap, but they do go flat a lot faster than low self discharge batts, like the eneloops the ones you linked to are good for high drain devices, but not so good for remotes... btw, DX also sell eneloops Edited June 17, 2008 by larry

Most of our customers are Pro Photographers who have tried all myriad of cheaper brand batteries. Performance is important to them, and once they have tried Powerex, they tend to keep coming back. I would be happy to test any other bands of batteries and let you know the real capacitiy. I am yet to find a battery that out-performs the Powerex 2700s. I have referred to a couple of real world tests conducted by others at our blog: see this test which found the iMEDION to be the highest capacity low discharge batteries in the world http://servaas.com.au/blog/index.php/low-s...y-test-results/ , and have a look at this test comparing the Powerex to the Energizer http://servaas.com.au/blog/index.php/aa-re...n-sb-800-flash/ especially after 3 weeks. I've been running one pair of AA batteries in my digital camera for about 3 months and it is still on full battery. Admittedly it has only been used for about a dozen photos, but that is far beyond the performance of any other battery I've ever put in there. Most need recharging after a month, even if I havent used the camera. The other pair I bought are in the TV remote in the lounge and 3 months later they are still working perfectly. I've also been using the same 4AAAs in my harmony remote for about the same period. I'd also add that these batteries are far better and hold far more power than my Energizer 1850 and 2200?? NiMH batteries. They are also far better than the cheap 2500 NiMHs I got off ebay, which are about half as good as the Energizers. They may not say they are low self discharge, and it may be due to better capacity to start with, but the batteries I've used have been awesome for $6. YMMV
