Hi All,

I finally got my P1 delivered last night and I am planning to have a go a setting it up tonight. I have been reading the manual for the last few weeks and the only thing that has me worried (so far) is how to set it up for networking. I have blue ethernet cable running through the walls and roof to connect the BW to my ADSL router.

I have been reluctant to ask these questions as I am sure to most they are very basic.

My intended networking uses for the P1 are as follows:

1. When the BW HDD approaches capacity, off load some files onto my PC HDD and then play them back at some later date.

2. Play existing media .avi movies, photos, music etc that are on my PC HDD through the BW.

Do I need to enable the BW as a client, server or both to do this? and do I need to install WizFX on my PC?

After reading what most people are saying about the lastest firmware, I am planning to run with version 192 as I am not planning at this stage to use the ICE TV feature and am willing to trade stability for bookmarking. Although I would appreciate any advice on this.

Thanks in advance.

You just need server enabled and client disabled and you do need WizFX installed on your pc to initiate the transfers from the pc.

You need server enabled so that other devices like the pc or another beyonwiz unit can see your P1 on the network and access it.

Client only needs to be enabled if you have multiple Beyonwiz units on the same Network

You also will need to create a Username & Password for Windows Sharing also

WizFX is one way of transferring using PNP (server on Wiz, WizFX client on PC). If you can setup a Windows share on your PC (with proper username/password), you can transfer recordings from the Wiz interface this way (called "SMB" for the protocol, which is really just the way Windows PCs are able to share files).

I am having no real stability problems with the latest f/w, in fact, there were conditions that could crash 192 which have been discovered and fixed (such as surfing the EPG too quickly for example).

1) No you don't need to worry about configuring it as client/server or wizFX to transfer files off the BW to the network, or to play back avis from the network. wizFX allows you to pull the recordings off the BW using a PC (rather than push them using the BW GUI).

2) I think 247 actually brings at least the same if not better stability than 192. The 2 ones pre-247 were poor though without hacks to work around critical problems

3) the BW doesn't do music or photos well; video... yes, photos & music ... no. There are far better options for those.
