kopthat Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 My Panasonic 42" Plasma TH-42??60A decided to not switch on after about 22 months. Lucky that I stumped up an extra $400 for 4 years Harvey Norman warranty. One of their local repairers Dawson Electronics picked it up yesterday and said about 2 weeks. Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with the HN warranty ? It would be nice if it was totally dead and they had to replace it with a newer model. It was a shock to the system going back to a 68cm CRT
suv84 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 My Panasonic 42" Plasma TH-42??60A decided to not switch on after about 22 months.Lucky that I stumped up an extra $400 for 4 years Harvey Norman warranty. One of their local repairers Dawson Electronics picked it up yesterday and said about 2 weeks. Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with the HN warranty ? It would be nice if it was totally dead and they had to replace it with a newer model. It was a shock to the system going back to a 68cm CRT Back in 2001 I had a panasonic rear projection TV. About 12 months after i had it, it developed a yellow patch in the middle of the screen. I contect harvey norman and they told me to take it into the repair shop that does there warranty. After about 3 months of chasing up they finally sent the tv back having had to replace one of the projection lens'. The only problem was that the colour calibration was completly off. I sent it back to the repair shop and they claimed that I had done it and I had to pay for the whole repair. It turned out that panasonic/extended warranty company had refused to pay for the repair as the cost of the repair was arround 1500 and they never called for authorisation. The cost price for them to replace it with the new model was 1000 so they tried to shaft me with the bill (which never had a chance of happening) as it would have been cheaper to replace it. On the other hand a few years ago I brought a sony surround sound system from the good guys. Within 2 weeks it was in the same repair shop. In the six months I had the system it spent over 4 months in getting repaired. They would fix it I would have it for a few days then the same thing. In the end I rang up the good guys and told them to supply a replacement model as the one I had was a lemon. As the system had become supercedded in the time I had it they contacted the sony rep to find out if they could give me the new model which was only $50 rrp more. The rep told them Not to give me a new one and if I didn't like it to give me a refund and I could buy another brand. The sales person was extreamly shocked by this. So I ended up paying a little more and getting a yamaha. So from my experience Pansonic and the warranty company Harvey Norman use will replace the model if costs get to high with a new one where as sony wont. Hope this helped
kopthat Posted June 17, 2008 Author Posted June 17, 2008 Yes thanks for the reply, I just hope they can fix it properly first time. I expected more from a Panasonic TV, I originally paid $3400 where as now I could pick up a better one for about $1300, oh the pain.... I have to keep reminding myself that I have enjoyed it for almost 2 years
Black Dawg Down Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Even with Panasonic manufacturer warranty (I had the same exact model which broke after 9 months), they just ended up replacing it with a refurbished unit. If it's too much to fix, most likely HN will give you a refurbished PX70A. It's a long way from getting a brand new unit I'm afraid.
kopthat Posted June 20, 2008 Author Posted June 20, 2008 Do you mean the TH-42PX7A ? So is that basically the same generation tv with a built in HD tuner ?
kopthat Posted July 14, 2008 Author Posted July 14, 2008 All good now, it was apparently the power board that had to be replaced.
