zallapo Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 I just got my Sony Bravia X 52" delivered yesterday, and have been playing around with the settings all nite. I've turned off both the MotionFlow and Cinema Drive settings, and back to Standard for Picture settings and it's looking AMAZING. Question is, all you X/XBR owners out there, do you guys leave the Noise Reduction on LOW or OFF? Am a huge film lover and film grain doesn't bother me, but I have to admit it does put a smoother finish to grainier films when on LOW such as Juno which has a tonne of film grain and even No Country For Old Men which has a much finer grain. What do you videophiles think?
Satanica Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 (edited) I'm no videophile but all noise reduction settings are OFF on my TV. Edited June 16, 2008 by Classic1977
TraceyLords Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Noise reduction should be OFF IMO, in fact I think it's is there for use with poor analogue tuner reception, among other things it creates motion issues with motion flow. In fact I find motion flow very good, but noise reduction MUST be off otherwise you get problems. If you have not already done so check out the calibration thread both here and on AVS. I have two settings Custom for day use and Cinema for night use. Cinema drive at Auto 1 and Motion flow to normal. I have power saving on low, this is a great tip I got from AVS, it really improves blacks, set this to low first then set you back light levels. It is also important to set to dot-by-dot mode IMO 1080p24 from BD player is fantastic by the way Great TV enjoy

Sorry used the slang, on the Sony it is called "Full Pixel" under the screen menu, this removes overscan and shows 1080 directly maped to the screen, I some times get a small line at the top or bottom of the screen with TV, but this is fine by me as the picture is noticably "sharper in a good way" noticably so with Blu Ray and HD TV, with this setting. Note I do scale every thing going to the screen to 1080 (I tend to use a PVR for TV not the internal tuner as well) so I have not realy checked out "Full Pixel" effect with the internal tuner. Yeap, have definately got Full pixels on. I hate losing the overscan.

Any particular advantages of using a external tuner?
