So for years refusing to include any of the Fracarro log periodics Hills on any 'recommended' by alanh list - despite them (LP34HV etc) being the most recommended antennas by installers in these forums - the moment (or before) Hills comes out with a couple of LPs and all of sudden you appear to be advocating them.

Sorry alanh, looks like bias and has always looked like bias, or at very least stubborness :)

Some of us have been here long enough to remember gclarke8's offer a few years back to you of an antenna shootout in the west. He was going to bring his LP34HV and you could bring whatever you liked. Needless to say you never took it up, nor even his offer of a free antenna to your door so you could do your own experiments and comparisons.

But heck, I'm all for Australian manufacturing companies doing well. Who owns Hills these days - still in 'local' hands?

Looking at the diagram of the Hills I would still prefer the light mechanicals and design of the Fracarros. Better bird-proofing, less weight, less mechanical torque etc. Of course, performance is key.

Maybe alanh you would now actually like to do your own experiments and report results: Hills LP vs Fracarro LP :)

longshot,

I would have no problem recommending Fraccaro Log Periodics if they were designed for our channels.

The ACMA is now in the process of licensing many more two way radio licences for the 470-518 MHz band which is our channels 20 - 26. This is in addition to the UHF CB band which is already within the channel range.

You should also note, that I have not recommended Hills and Matchmaster products which are designed to cover the above frequency range.

I have only made one exception to that rule, and that is for phased arrays. There is no phased arrays on the market for parts of the UHF band are not designed from channel 20 - 68. The only exception to that is a Fracarro model which is for band 5 and Australian mobile phones. (Next G)
