Stumbled over this looking for a new home cinema kit for my father-in-law.

Seems it can accept LPCM 5.1 audio so good for PS3 and the like that decode HD audio onboard.

Any thoughts costs about £350 (uk pounds)

ahh...it would be great if you're really small  *

for me home cinema is meant to go someway to re-creating an actual cinema and that won't come close. Headphones would be better

*no offence to small people intended

I have heard the same kit with a combined dvd player ,and to be honest it wasn't bad for its size.

True i wouldn't want this as maybe like yourself prefer a seperates system.

This for some maybe the perfect and only option they have for home cinema .Very small rooms or a partner who don't want big boxes about .

cheers

The Orb speakers are definatly worth a look for him.

My problem is he asks me to advise him and at 63 he is a bit of a stuck in the mud type,so convincing him is not that easy.

He will go and change his mind like the weather so at the moment i'm browsing for him .

How do the Orb's compare on price ,as at the price of the Sony which includes all amplification and speakers aint that bad for a simple system.

I am still looking around as well for other systems.

Smaller speakers will never sound as good as larger ones no matter who they are made by

and what they cost. Simple physics says that they just can't move as much air. If you want

a hidden system you are much better off going with wall / ceiling mount plates. Systems like

this are made to be sold to the mass public as gimmicks. I haven't heard them but have

listened to enough small speakers (some by very high end manufacturers) to know.
