When I set the video output for Foxtel HD to Auto, it outputs at 720p for all channels.

I'm using HDMI connection going via a Yamaha 3800 amp (that can accept up to a 1080p signal) into a Samsung LA40F81BDX shich is a 1080p screen.

What are other getting and what would be the best output to selct for a 1080p screen?

And what type of screen do you have and how is it connected?

Kuro LX608A straight from the IQ2 via HDMI

Edit - I'd also like to know how this affects ESPN HD (supposed to be 720P) with it coming through at 1080i?

I get 720p running into a Panasoninc 50' 700A which is also a 1080p screen

I have forced all to 1080i - ESPN looks fine.

No problems here with AUTO correctly detecting 1080i - going through an onkyo 705 and into my Samsung F81 46"

Since we have the same TV and same IQ2 box, i imagine your Yammy amp must be doing something "different" to the EDID info, for the box to only detect the HDMI chain as 720P capable.

Do you have any other HDMI devices running through the yammy and into the F81? Do they auto detect supported resolution correctly?

Hi, I've got a Yamaha 3800 and a Pioneer Kuro LX60, and the IQ2 is set to Auto and the screen detects it as 1080i, you sure you've not got the receiver set wrong, although it should just auto-detect? As an experiment, try sending the IQ2 straight to the tv and see what it thinks then.

Cheers

I also have a PS3, Popcorn Hour, and Xbox 360. All work fine.

If you're getting 1080i, I suppose I should just force it to 1080i.

I don't think I have it set up incorrectly as the Yamaha doesn't scale the HDMI inputs from what I understabd.

Same here.

I tried connecting the HDMI cable directly to the TV and it did choose 1080i when set to auto.

Seeing we have the same amp, I wonder what I'm doing wrong.

Anyhow, I've selcted 1080i instead of AUTO.

It certainly does upscale, as does my RX-V1800.

We dont have the same amp - i have an Onkyo 705, you have a Yammy 3800 :) We have the same TV though, so that's why i figure something in your Yamaha is modifying hte EDID so the foxtel IQ2 only wants to outpu7t 720P

I probably woudlnt worry about it, forcing to 1080i should be fine. Or, as mentioned, if your receiver does do some video processing on HDMI inputs (mine passes HDMI straight through), make sure you set that to "THROUGH" and see how that goes.

Not with HDMI inputs, just the analog inputs i.e. it will upscale component up to 1080p but if the input is via HDMI it passes the signal.
