Hi i have just noticed a few small issues with playing blu ray's on the ps3:

1) On some blu ray movies, such as Sunshine, Narnia and a few others, the 'x' button does not function even though all the other controls do. The only way to control the menu and movie controls is to use the on-screen display by pressing the triangle button. Seems strange becasue all other buttons like L1,L2,R1,R2 etc work. Just the X does not work.

2) I like to insert the blu ray disc in the ps3, turn it on and go and get a drink or something or continue watching the tv while i let it boot up to the movie menu (or movie start on some discs)

The problem with this is that the movie doesnt boot up fully until i actually change to the HDMI input for the PS3. It appears to load past the PS3 menu's but just sits in a blank state from there, until HDMI input is chosen on the tv. It's quite annoying when some movies force you to sit through disclaimers or trailers etc. All i want to do is continue to watch tv while the movie boots up. is there something wrong with my ps3?

1) is it the Aus version or Asian version? On the Asian versions the X and O buttons are swapped. I have a Japanses PS3 and Pressing O pauses/unpauses, although on some titles this is disabled and I use the Start button instead.

2) this would be a 'feature' of the HDCP compliance. If the console doesn't get the right response from the TV then it won't display anything.

The PS3 is Aus version, if i press the circle button is asks if i want to exit playback so seems to work as normal in that respect. I have the lastest firmware 2.35 also. I am using the controller so noramlly X does the pause/play but on these 2 movies and a few others it does nothing.

Is there way to turn off the HDCP compliance? i just want it to boot up regardless of the tv's input.

The controls will depend on the disc so if X is disabled for the one you're watching then, I'm afraid, that's something you'll have to live with.

Short answer - No.

Long answer - Not unless you're really good with a soldering iron and can reverse engineer the console.

I've found exactly the same thing. Infact, I've found that with many JAVA discs, the fast forward using the analogue stick is disabled. A major PITA.

wonder how this effects the optional remote? I'm considering getting a region A ps3 soon.

On the ps3 remote when you play a java BD the main transport buttons keep working but you can't use the ring or select buttons as they are offline with java BD's.
