Hi all.

I have set up my xbox 360 via hdmi to my Sony DA3300ES. I have 7 speakers + sub connected to the reciever and all is fine. Problem is when I set the reciever to use 7.1 surround or even 5.1 surrond to watch a movie or play a game, generally the sound is (great explanation coming...) all messed up - eg. I watch a movie and I can't hear a word being said because the music is far too loud, or when I play a soccer game the sound of the crowd overpowers the commentators - I have tried many many things (I've fiddled with all the settings on the reciever, tried callibrating it many different times) and it just won't work... When I set the reciever to output 2ch direct all is fine (everything is in balance (i.e. the music volume is softer than the talking)) but ONLY in stero - any ideas? If there is any information you would like/need me to include please let me know - I'm getting desperate here :P

Thanks in advance

alternitiveqwerty,

I once had the same issue(sounds the same although I have never had a sony reciever)and as it happened

I had the settings wrong on the 360

I cant help you,but I have to wonder......

1)how does it sound in 7 channel radio..

2)have you tried optical from the 360 to the sony

3)with some games, you can go into the sound option and adjust foreground sound and background sound

4) try changing the audio option on the 360

what signal does your sony receive??

avrtRick - thanks for the responce. I am certain the 360 is set up correct

1) I have no idea - I'll check

2) No because I'd rather use HDMI than componant + optical (I don't really want to take the componant apart to use both)

3) I did this & it still sounds really off

4) Tried it all

The reciever recieves :P 3/2.1 (From memory) Anyhoo... I found a 'fix'

I disabled my centre speaker (it was a cheap little speaker so no real loss I guess) And lo and behold I CAN HEAR VOICES! THERE COMING OUT OF L+R FRONT SPEAKERS! Hooray! From what I could understand of what I read about people with similar problems - the audio @ the movies is the same as it is on DVDs as the music is louder than voice - however because it is all so loud it makes no difference (not sure how true that is though) Anyhoo the voice is midrange and it gets swamped out by the music... Feel free to correct me if anyone can - I'd love to know... If anyone has a better suggestion than what I've done please let me know!

Cheers.
