Have just moved into a house with an existing satellite dish etc and yes I have looked at the sticky about Foxtel Prices.

Thing is, most of the stuff on the standard package is of no interest to me at all. Bloomberg, news channels, sport are not my thing. More interested in channels such as Nat Geo, History, Movies. I get my news from the web and do not follow sport except for Olympics and Lawn bowls on the ABC

Is there a basic package where I can pick and choose say 10 channels, or do I have to take the basic dross-laden package and then extend it? (which I don't consider good value for my situation)

Also I have a big HD capable LCD and in view of the pretty ordinary PQ would only be interested in the movie and doco channels that offer a better bitrate. Not interested in IQ either, just looking for a good basic service as a supplement to FTA, BT (yeah PQ I know but it's free) and DVD viewing.

Cheers

You need to get basic and then extras on top. Have a look at the foxtel website and their packages. It is pretty clear how it works.

You could also try select tv. They also have obscure viewing sport throuhg their eurosport channel.

A lot of the price you pay for the basic package covers stuff like box rental - as well as the big channels like Fox8. You may not be interested in channels like CNN, but in reality they cost Foxtel very little - so if they weren't in the basic package the price wouldn't decrease much.

You could just get basic + docos + one or both of the movie packages. Then if you want you could also pay an extra $20 and get Nat Geo/Discovery/BBC HD and the Foxtel HD box.

Interests plenty of people according to the NSW TAB who held $200 000 on monday nights bizarre event in Perth. An indoor netball game cancelled due to rain :o

The roof was leaking onto the court haha.

the idea of foxtel appeals but whenever i look at the shows they have, that quickly vanishes.

i just wish i could pick every channel that i want and not HAVE to have ones i do not.

when that does happen i will definitely get foxtel.

Will never happen ? Thats what we all know..

I subscribe to everything except movies ( no HD, no IQ etc ) as I think dollar for dollar this is the best option.

Very frustrating that you can not select individual channels and notice also that with the different tiers they have, each one has 1 or 2 channels of interest, many of no interest and of course they charge you like a wounded bull !

Actually a former GF tried to rope me into a mixed Netball team a few years ago  . Politely declined but used to go along and watch the games (matches?) and drink lots of Carlton Cold whilst doing so -_- Definitely more interesting than soccer.
