rwo Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I am considering using two identical subs with an Onkyo amp (which I haven't purchased yet) that has 7.1 out. How does one go about doing this? Is a Y cable sufficient (with the single end connected to the amp and each ends of the Y going to a sub) or is it preferred solution to just buy an amp with 7.2 channels (say a yammy)? Are their any advantages/disadvantages of going either way? Subs will be DIY and each sub will have it's own plate amp installed.
ajm1503559545 Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I use a very basic Y-cable that I bought from JB HiFi. It's well built (made by Sony) but it's from their car audio parts not HT. Makes no difference in the performance but it does make a difference when you're trying to find it in the shop. I run the Y adapter from the amp then into two RCA cables to the plate amp. My SVS subs have just the one input and they work fine with this arrangement.
rwo Posted June 11, 2008 Author Posted June 11, 2008 No worries, that sound like the way to go then. Cheers.
