Guest Lichbane Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I recently got the P91 50" Sammy Plasma. Love it! Great TV. I do have one niggling annoyance though. To change the source (TV/STB/PS3/Media Player) you need to press the Source button on the remote and press the up/down buttons to go through the menu ... and yet there are TV/STB/VCR/err .. one other buttons at the top of the remote that seem to do nothing constructive. I presume there is some way of mapping the source to those buttons, but I'm damned if I can find out how. Is ther any way to map those buttons to the various sources? If not, is the only way to cycle through the various sources to go through the cumbersome method of pressing the Source button and pressing the up/down buttons to go through the menu?
Shonky* Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Possibly not using the original remote, no (although you do say there are keys there). Many TVs these days have what's called "discrete codes" which allows you to access inputs directly when used with universal remotes. If there are dedicated buttons on the remote, they must do something. Read the manual?

The buttons at the top are used for changing modes when you use the remote as a universal. By that I mean, you can press "DVD" on the Samsung remote and it will then put the remote into the mode for controlling your DVD. It's not what you're after. I would suggest going for a true universal remote like a Logitech Harmony. The Samsung P9 definitely has distinct codes for specific input modes without having to go through the menus. I have set mine up so that I can press ONE button to go into PC mode, component 1, TV etc - saves having to go through the menus. I don't think (but stand to be corrected) that the Samsung remote is programmable in that way.
Guest Lichbane Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Thanks for that. It looks like I've going to have save up for one of them-thaar-fancy logitech remote thingies.
diesel Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 You won't have to save up too hard after forking out for a 50" P91. Harmonies start at ~$74 from DSE, cheaper from places like Umart
melinda Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Harmony is definatly the way to go but just to let you know that the F81 allows you to cycle through the various sources just by pressing the button mutiple times I would assume that the P91 would be the same ? at least that means you don't have to arrow down
