Hey Guys,

Sorry if this has been answered, if anyone can help it would be great...

I have moved to Mulgrave Vic ( South Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne ), I want to get an excellent digital antenna for my Full HD Bravia as the signal strength on my TV tells me its only at the half way level, I have inspected the antenna on the roof it looks small. I have seen some at Bunnings for about $150 that look big and do Analogue and Digital, I have no idea what is good or not but my previous place I lived in at Ormond the antenna signal was crap to so I dont want to be dissapointed.

Any help?

Cheers

Michael,

Mulgrave is generally an excellent area for digital reception.

The most suitable type of antenna will depend on terrain and how many outlets you need.

If you have a clear view towards Mt Dandenong, then a Fracarro LP34/5HV will work well.

Do not confuse antenna size with what works best.

Antennas designed to include analogue ABC (Ch 2) reception have very long elements, whereas digital only uses channels 6 and above, meaning it's also physically smaller, so you should not install an antenna designed to include analogue channels below channel 6.

If you do, you increase the chances of the antenna picking up impulse noise interference, which can cause loss of digital reception in some instances.

If it's a very small antenna you have, it's possible it's only a UHF antenna (eg: for SBS only).

The antennas Bunnings sell are overpriced and generally not optimised for digital reception.

I highly recommend the Fracarro antenna, however from Mulgrave, any decent 'digital' antenna should be ok.
