jarthel Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 well compared to other brands, I rarely see discussions on philips TVs and I somewhat believe philips in one of the biggest eletronics/eletrical name in the world. what current/future Philips TV are you looking at? thank you
scottylans Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Not much discussion because they don't have many products in the stores.
myrantz Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 (edited) Not much discussion because they don't have many products in the stores. Concentrate on Phillips plasma as they are withdrawing from LCD (link).. In fact, Phillips is also pulling out from the US market. (link)... Edited June 10, 2008 by treblid
kulfi Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Concentrate on Phillips plasma as they are withdrawing from LCD This article was dated August 2006. We're almost 2 years past that date and Philips still appears to be in the LG-Philips alliance. Philips plasmas have disappeared in the meantime and they're now exclusively selling LCDs in Australia.

Hmmm.. your right.. It is 2008 this year ... Strange that I still remember something from 2 years ago.. My mind is very crossed wired today.. Philips plasmas have disappeared in the meantime and they're now exclusively selling LCDs in Australia. Yup.. Still under the brand name Phillips.. TBH I don't think I see alot of Phillips LCDs in the shops here, but then I didn't really look (their marketing department not doing work I guess)...
suparockin Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Dissapointing, my old 42" Philips plasma is stil going strong.
coffee78 Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 <TBH I don't think I see alot of Phillips LCDs in the shops here, but then I didn't really look (their marketing department not doing work I guess)...> Inexplicably patchy. Myer & HN = yes, Clive Peters & DJ = No. Explain those market demographics and play fair. Myer Melb CBD has the 40" LCD on display in the middle of a lineup of screens where is is easy to compare picture. The 47" is more on its own in the middle. Watched a little bit of NineHD and when the ad for Tiger - Spy in the Jungle came on, I almost bought the thing then and there. I'm planning on a purchase of the 47" because I like the PQ best as seen so far in store. Best price quoted on this site is around the $2800 mark, so that is my target. Myer stocktake sale ticket price presently $3150. Probable new model coming out in July has allowed me to continue procrastinating. Haven't seen any description of it yet, so don't know if the new screen has a gloss finish, but the current one is a matt like a PC screen. I'd prefer the matt screen. Don't want to spend that kind of money to look at myself. What to do, what to do? I've had CRT & Audio Philips equipment in the past and it has taken a hammering, including moving state twice, and lasted for more than a decade. I've had CRT & VCR Samsung equipment in the past and it was pretty ordinary and lasted less than half the time. I've got big Samsung PC screens, (DELL) and am really glad I went with somewhere that had a Business warranty. The 24" was fine from the outset, but the 30" took DELL, 3 goes to land a defect free screen on my desk. That said, the screens I've now got, work long hours and remain a thing of beauty. As reported here at DTV, Samsung were completely hapless water buffalos with the faults & problems shipped with the F81s. Don't think I could really face that sort of agro over something as trivial as a TV. Haven't been many reports of problems with the Philips and in engineering, no news is good news. Haven't been following the Sony saga. Philips threads are back on page 3 or 4, possibly 5.
BribieG Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I have a Philips upscaling DVD player with a USB port at the front, HDMI and a slot-drive. It's now 2 years old and one of the best items of consumer electronics I have ever owned. I actually dread using the other DVD players in various rooms like the SONY fairly-high-end player in the bedroom.

BribieG Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 bought my Philips item from Good Guys so obviously they are a distributor & a place to look.
Guest EZYHD Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I had a 76cm CRT Phillips had great picture, guy I sold it 2 last year is very impress still. Saw a 42" LCD I think it was in Myer 2 months ago had excellent picture. I don't think you'll find Phillips isn't very competitive these days.

Yep for placement. Good Guys = Yes, Retravision = No.
skipppy Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 just because some companies dont have giant bunnies in there advertising, doesnt make them **** i think its kinda the opposite
