The wife has given me permission to spend $1000 (and not a cent more) on a LCD TV that will be mounted on our bedroom wall. At this stage I am looking at either the Panasonic TX-26LXD70A (26") or Samsung LA32R81BDX (32").

Are there any others I should be considering? Also, what's the general consesus on which is the better between the Panasonic and Samsung? I know ultimately my eyes need to decide but I would appreciate some opinions.

Try to get as much bang for your buck as you can :)

There are some models in the price wiki to consider here

Some members have samsungs that were 32 inch models for sale from the promotion earlier in the year here

Best of luck on your purchase, J. :D

Thanks for the links.

I just wish the wife would let me stretch the budget a little more so that I could look at some 100Hz models.

We all wish our wives would let us stretch the budget a little more, the never ending quest for something better continues....... :D

You can spend all day reading posts in this site about issues relating to 100Hz models - so don't be too pre-occupied about it. You will be the one sitting in front of the TV so trust you judgement.

If you can convince a salesman that you are ready to buy - you should be able to purchase a branded 32" LCD model easily within your budget.

Samsung LA32R81 has been going for under $900. Now that the new A450 is in the shops, you could pick up the old model on runout. Bigger is better so if your budget and viewing distance allow it, there are some 37" models you might want to look at.

You won't find la32r's in shops anymore, they are run out. The only retailers with them left couldn't sell jumpers to eskimos.

pretty sure you could get the new a450 for a squidgen about 1000 though, literally if you have 1000 from your wife, and a fifty in your wallet that she doesn't know about you could probably pick one up for that.....

I am now considering the Sony KDL32S3100. Is it reasonable to try and bargain the salesman down to $1,100. With the $100 Cashback from Sony, this would fit in my $1,000 budget.

Your initial POS is 1100, and cashback takes friggin ages, like 2-3 months sometimes.

They are end of line though, so be careful if a salesperson promises stock (I.e there isn't any) There is a new model of them coming out in july, however the price won't be that good.

maybe consider a philips 32pfl7532 for around 1050 if you can swing it.

Can get a Toshiba 32AV500A LCD from Harvey Norman for under a $1000, and Toshiba have a free 5 year warranty promotion going at present.

Saw one side by side with a Panasonic 32LXD700A ( which I have at home) and it looked good.

I might have 1 x Toshiba 32C3000A left in a box..

If you're in QLD that is.. They're going for $1149 etc. But if you're interested, gimme a call at Clive Peeters (Macgregor) ask for SuFz and I'll double check.

SuFz :ninja:

I ended up getting a Sony KDL32D3100. We originally were going to get the KDL32S3100 (because of budget constraints) but when the wife saw the difference 100Hz made, I was able to convince her to spend a little extra on the superior model. :D

After cashback, it cost me $1,100.

Where did you buy it from c.exton?

I picked it up from JB. It was the last one however and it was a display model hence the good price.

I know the last thing you want to do is buy a display model but it had not been up for long (was being used on a new Apple display) and I was able at least to check there were no dead pixels. LCD panels have a long life so I am not too concerned.
