ghostmo Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 (edited) Hi everyone, Just looking at getting my old man a 32" LCD for his beach "shack" which has variable digital coverage, but decent analogue. His 68cm Panasonic CRT has just died, and we were using a Strong STB with it. Any thoughts on Toshiba LCD's. Looking at a 32AV500A, which I can get for $940, and Tosh has a free 5 year warranty deal going at present. Thanks for your thoughts and input. Edited June 7, 2008 by ghostmo
ghostmo Posted June 9, 2008 Author Posted June 9, 2008 Well, I picked this up yesterday. Was easy to set up, which I did in town as I knew the reception is better at my place. Took it up to the beach, and gave really good reception - I was stoked as previously, this was an ordinary area for digital reception. BUT , channel nine was a problem. It looked like the bottom and left 1/3 of the screen was cut off. So news presenters were sitting offcentre to the left, and the footy scoreboard was cut in half. All other channels were excellent. I connected an external box, and all on channel nine was normal, SO obviously a glitch in the decoding with channel 9. Any other thoughts? Otherwise was really impressed. Calling Harvey Norman today for replacement.
Rex_Wang Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I am looking for the Toshiba TV. Could you let me know the channel nine is DTV or ATV, the problem disppear after replace? Thanks.
GTO Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I've got a 47" Toshiba LCD 1080i HD--Couldn't be happier. They don't get much of a mention on this forum, but I'm very happy, & have had no problems at all. Cheers, GTO.

At the time, it easily outclassed Sony and Pana for picture quality, but I paid alot (considering you can now buy a 50" Panasonic plasma for much less). Ouch! Don't know why they don't get much support on here, I guess the brand recognition isn't strong. Similarly with Sharp...
fawlty99 Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Saw a review in Smarthouse (yes take it with a grain of salt but nevertheless ....) where the Tosh outpointed Sony & Samsung as far as natural colours and detail were concerned. They were not full hd screens.
El301 Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Have been considering the new Toshiba 42XV500A, which the sales guy strongly recommended. There's very little info about them anywhere though! Has anyone bought one yet? How does it compare?

Has anyone bought one yet? How does it compare? I have also heard great reports on this Tosh. The report came fron an ex-salesman, therefore no reason to not trust him. So I'm really keen to here any reports.
boxer Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 I've just bought one today. $849 from CP Ringwood. Nice picture. So far happy, but the kids will be the real reviewers once they've had a go at the play station on it. I'll get back with info later. I'll compare picture quality against a Pana Viera th42, 2 years old. It doesn't have a PC connection capability by the look of it. An oversight on my behalf but one I'll live with.

boxer Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 (edited) 32av500a. 32". I think a 2 week wait would've been more astute if really wanting to haggle...but I was there to buy then. $1099 sticker price, reduced as clearance to $899, average haggling to $849. I offered $800...he saw the manager and offered the 849. I immediately thought I should've offered $700! I wanted a Pana of same size but at least a 4 week wait. The shopping crowd was constant and busy, and the salesmen looked like tuna fisherman reeling them in one after another. 2 year warranty, and I believe there was a 5 year warranty offer a few months back. Does that equate to confidence in the product from the manufacturer? I have to say, the picture is excellent. Works well with the PS and I watched a footy dvd which was very good also. The scrolling between stations is quite slow, and the on screen info seems cluttered. I'll get used to the info display, but the scroll time is a little annoying. Edited January 1, 2009 by boxer
timmie1 Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Thanks boxer, I've been in the market for a 32", but was hoping it would fall to <$800. One of the other threads was showing a $699 deal for a Sharp in Adelaide, but alas, GG here in Sydney has same TV for $849 and no more stock. Wanted a pana too, but couldn't find a decent deal here in Syd. Hopefully there's still some more stock out there and last minute clearances before the end of Jan when the price rises hit.
boxer Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 The PANA 32" was listed at $899 clearance...they had moved them all and were now on order. I suspect their popularity for buyers may reduce the haggle margin for those same buyers.
boxer Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 (edited) double post..sorry. Edited January 1, 2009 by boxer
ruperghrt Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 for that price you may aswell grab it. especially with 5 year warranty
Guest sweetchuk Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Hello ghostmo, I received my Toshiba X3000A Full HD 57" LCD just before New Year - all I can say is that I would happily put it up against any LCD panel for its build quality, clarity, tone and unbelievably good picture. Admittedly, this is not a budget priced panel in the sub-$1000 bracket, but from the experience I have had with this, and with calibration coming its way in late January, I've not seen a better quality unit anywhere, and would like to think that the Toshiba picture quality was equally impressive in the other LCD panels. You can read up a little bit on it here: http://www.toshibaav.com.au/spec_57X3000A.html

vallatv Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Just got a Toshiba 37X3000A 37" FULL HD LCD yesterday. Sales guy also told me it was a samsung panel. Picture quality is great even on SD channels and Austar which is also SD. Easy setup, DVD's look awesome. The Cricket on 9 last night in HD was unreal. 37" is more than big enough for my lounge room and only just fitted in the entertainment unit with about 2cm each end to spare. I was looking at Samsungs and LG's and ended up with the Toshiba so I could get Full HD 1080p. With a extended warranty (3years on top of the 2 toshiba give) it cost me just over $1600. I'm very happy with this set and would recommend it to anyone.

After Initial worries about picture from my 46" Lcd (seemed to have a lot of motion blur, but all good now), I am extremely happy with TV and would recommend Toshiba TV's to anyone looking for a new tv. Also 5 Year warranty was a big plus and $250 cash back
vallatv Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I found the picture has got better the more i watch it like it is bedding in for something, even the movement blur is improving on Austar.
