Guest David Tran Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 When is a good time to buy one? With each new models coming out either a LCD or Plasma, the PQ gets better and better until it cant get better. All CE companies are in the business of making money. Alots of money. They will not make a LCD or Plasma so prefect without technical faults that they cant better the ones from last year. That's life. Everything evolves. I have 6G 52 pioneer plasma with a permanent ghostly figure. I'd love to get it off but I dont have the time to get it off. So toward the end of this year either b4 Olympic or after I will be buying another HD display. I have decided to go for LCD either a Samsung or Sony. Samsung - a650/a750/a850/a950? Sony - XBR series After that we will be moving into Laser TV, 3D TV and OLED and other technical marvel gadgets. comments

scottylans Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 here's one.Try and make a point. You're friendly aren't you? If you read his question carefully, I think you'll see he wants to know when is a good time to buy during the year, which I wouldn't mind knowing myself. Is there really going to be big savings coming up before June 30'th? and after June 30'th will prices reset back higher?
dvduser Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 No matter what you buy, be it a car, washing machine, HT equipment, display etc. etc. it will ALWAYS be superceded and be out of date the moment you purchase - Just a fact of life. So who cares when you purchase, if your happy with what you got yourself.

But I'm wondering why you don't find some time to fix (if fixable) your Pio.
insane1503559784 Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 hes trying to make a point about technology being superceded, while saying that he cant be bothered fixing his 52" plasma and so when is the best time of year to buy.... mixed messages ftw.
kulfi Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 and after June 30'th will prices reset back higher? No. They will be lower and I'm expecting pre-Olympic freebie offers from around 10th July.
Guest David Tran Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 I have enjoyed my 6G pioneer plasma. It was best at that time. Now it is time to move on. I did not mentioned that I cant be bothered fixing it. I said I dont have the time. If you get up at 3am and dont come home after 5.00pm. That's why it is not fixed. Pioneer have a 5 years warranty. Making the time either after hours or weekends. But do Pioneer works on weekends? Technology is moving so quickly. With Australia being the assed end of technology in term of models. It will superceded so quickly that you will fork out more money for a better model. So when is the best time to buy. After the Olympic or before. Simply question. David
scottylans Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 No. They will be lower and I'm expecting pre-Olympic freebie offers from around 10th July. Don't say that! I just want a damn TV, don't make me ponder it!
Owen Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 The time to buy is when you see something that’s suits your quality and size requirements at a price you are prepared to pay. If I where looking to buy a big TV today I would be in a dilemma as nothing meets my needs for quality and size at any price, could be a year or two before something does.
kulfi Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 Don't say that! I just want a damn TV, don't make me ponder it! I'm not asking you to ponder it. I'm asking you to wait for the pre-Olympic battle of the promos. I waited till after Christmas and picked up my TV with a freebie LCD at a ridiculously low price. Sure, it hurt, not having the good stuff over the holiday season but I blew the money that was saved on other goodies like 5.1 speakers and a PVR. I'm a happy camper now and wouldn't want you to feel unhappy seeing the offers AFTER you've paid the big bucks.
ssar Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Interesting topic I think. As with much of the modern technological gadgets/electronic equipment we have & use these days, much of it seems to evolve fairly quickly with superceded and upgraded models appearing every 3-6 months. You gotta bite the bullet and snag something sometime tho, so it's probably not worth waiting too long and stuffing around too much just to save a few hundred dollars. Trying to snag a good quality model, by a somewhat reputable manufacturer (I have heard more good things about Pioneer & Panasonic flat panel TVs, as well as Samsung & Hitachi to a lesser degree recently). Btw, personally I beleive most Sony products are a little over-rated & over-priced, but this is not based on extensive experience. I am convinced that: BIGGER IS BETTER. (i.e. as big as you can afford that suits the space & viewing distance in which you plan to use it). As for this year looking at buying some nice big flat panel TV before the 2008 Olympics, there does appear to be somewhat of a window opening up in June & July which may offer some good options. Mmm.. Beer.
scottylans Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Yes, bigger definitely better. 36" HD CRT has a fantastic picture but 36" - no good anymore
Louie Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 With the mention of the pre-Olympic promo's/sales, this might actually have a negative effect, in that finding the TV you are after could be a bit more difficult, as more people are wanting to upgrade, so stocks will no doubt be limited as more and more people decide to take the plunge before the Games and get a bigger and better tellie. Also this is around the time new models are coming in, so some stock will be superseeded and selling cheaper, and retailers and wholesalers may not yet have a full compliment of new generation tv's to go around. I guess we won't know until it happens, but you may find the TV you are after is sold out everywhere, as all people are jumping at the new prices and upgrading. Why wait really, if there are good sets around, waiting longer may decrease your chance of getting one and getting a good price on it. Sure there will be better deals next week or the week after, but this will happen no matter when you buy the TV. So have a look, decide on what TV set you like, and if you have the cash take the plunge is my thoughts.

That is true, but nothing hurts more when u buy something and the next month a newer better more flashier model is released, thats the same price too Thats why Im waiting for the new samsungs to drop Mmm.. Beer. hahaha, the tav, anyone?
ssar Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Here's a few Plasma models I will have a good look at soon, with the cheapest prices I have seen quoted in various forums: --- 50” / 127cm 1080 (1920 x 1080 resolution) Plasma options: Panasonic TH-50PZ700A – $2500 (08Jun08) Samsung PS50P91FDX – $2550 (08Jun08) --- 50” / 127cm 768 (1365 x 768 resolution) Plasma options: Panasonic TH-50PX80A – $1900 (07Jun08) Samsung PS50Q91HDX – $1800 (08Jun08) Mmmm. Lesse what these prices do over the coming fortnight.
ssar Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Note: "Powerland Electronics Pty Ltd" (& some other online store I think as well) seem to be selling Samsung 50" 768 & 1080 Plasma Factory Seconds on eBay lately, with final prices around $300-$500 cheaper again at the moment. Anyone got any reports about what some of these are like?

Yep ... I just bought a 50" Samsung 'C' model for the princely sum off eBay for $1289.25 plus delivery of $121 to me in WA. Delivery took 1 1/2 days all the way from Sydney to the SW of WA !!! 'Factory second' that I got was still sealed in original plastic & the remote / manual / cords etc were all factory sealed !!! The only thing that was not perfect was the 'carton damage' that was advised by the seller. Other than that ... I 'think' I got a pretty good buy ??? Best deal I could get from my local Retravision for the same TV was $1999 for ex display model that they wanted to shift ASAP ???
