Cooksta59 Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Hi ...Here is a link to my Home Theatre Pics....(Click here) And thanks to all those wonderful, knowledgeable, humorous (and grumpy too!!) contributors ...who helped in some way or the other in the choices I made.... Cheers KW Looks very nice kwarrior, have you considered wall mounting the plasma; then you would be able to get the centre out from behind it and into a more user friendly placement.
the_wonderchild Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 really nice stuff mate. I too would recommend the idea of wall-mounting the panel if possible; that way you'll have a clear path for that cinema dialogue coming from the centre channel.
betty boop Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 very nice K. one really neat and classy looking setup. great to see another lounge room set. echo he centre comments from the guys. including mounting the panel to the wall which will allow the centre to just be placed on the cabinet below. or kamma's suggestion of a pedestal to raise the panl on its stad a pretty good one as well
yamapro Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Nice one KW I really love the Old Skool CD 63 KI that is a gorgeous bit of original kit you have there
cwt Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Very nice k warrior ;allways admired jamo drivers . I gather the sansui's are for L/R Surrounds and the acoustic research are for back surrounds ? I imagine speaker placement is difficult with what looks like a complete open plan area on 1 side . Did you consider in ceilings possibly ? Please ignore this if its a heritage property and you dont want to cut out baffles in the ceiling

That is a good idea...together with Kamma's suggestion someplace else....the only issue I have with a wall mount, is ..how strong does that mount remain ...say after a couple of years ? really nice stuff mate.I too would recommend the idea of wall-mounting the panel if possible; that way you'll have a clear path for that cinema dialogue coming from the centre channel. Thanks Wonder...yes, the Center Channel is a bit of a problem at the moment...but I will have to give this some serious thought....and get the wife on my side too...she hates punching holes in the wall... very nice K. one really neat and classy looking setup. great to see another lounge room set. echo he centre comments from the guys. including mounting the panel to the wall which will allow the centre to just be placed on the cabinet below. or kamma's suggestion of a pedestal to raise the panl on its stad a pretty good one as well Thanks Al...BTW, to the left of the HT set up is the bar Nice one KWI really love the Old Skool CD 63 KI that is a gorgeous bit of original kit you have there Yes, the Marantz CD KI is a real oldy!! Had it since 1998....plays my old CD like a dream... Very nice k warrior ;allways admired jamo drivers . I gather the sansui's are for L/R Surrounds and the acoustic research are for back surrounds ? I imagine speaker placement is difficult with what looks like a complete open plan area on 1 side . Did you consider in ceilings possibly ? Please ignore this if its a heritage property and you dont want to cut out baffles in the ceiling Not heritage, cwt....but fairly new !! The Sansuis and ARs are the other way around...(now dont beat me up on this yet...let me explain!!).... That is because, I get the ARs at ear level....which translates the Surround L/R signals better to the listener....and the Sansui's...because they are placed at ground level...they, well, are not really audible to the person(s) sitting on that sofa at the back !! So...I have two issues....one the Center Speaker....and the other the Surround ones....The Center Sp Problem can be solved with the two suggestions that people have offered on this thread...but cw, any suggestions with the surrounds... AND yes, the Jamos...well...I have had this too, since 1998...they are really good drivers...and my Center Speaker is Jamo too....and quite a large one !!!
kwarrior Posted June 6, 2008 Author Posted June 6, 2008 Very impressive and neat set up. Looks great KW... cheers. And....thanks to all who were kind enough to have a look and comment....much appreciated....
Cooksta59 Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 (edited) That is a good idea...together with Kamma's suggestion someplace else....the only issue I have with a wall mount, is ..how strong does that mount remain ...say after a couple of years ? I dont see any problem with the wall mount over time if the bolts that fasten the wall mount to the wall studs (assuming you have gyprock walls) are centered in the studs and you predrill the hole to the correct diameter so as not to split the studs. I only wall mounted mine this year at the wafs insistence and it really looks much better than pedestal mount imo. You can also hide the cables in the wall for a really neat finish. When mounted the wall plate is very secure, I put all my weight on it before putting the plasma in place. Wall mounted Plasma I bought a Selby wall mount around $50 it has all mounting hardware. When finding centre of wall stud I located it and then used a thin tool to poke through the gyprock to find both edges of the stud, then measured the centre of the stud and predrilled the holes, I bought the correct size drill bit recommended in the fitting instructions. Drill one hole then use a spirit level to make sure its level, the slightest off level bias will be enhanced by the tv. Selby acoustics wall plates Selby are great to deal with and also being a dtv member you get 20% discount using the dtv08 promotion code. Edited June 7, 2008 by cooksta

I am an ordinary Computer guy...and I read your instructions to wall mount the plasma with interest, but also with great amount of trepedition ...I am confident in most circumstances....but this wall mounting business might just be out of my league... Can I ask a few questions, pls ? Q - Do you get wall mounts that are independant of TV / Plasma manufacturer ? And do you ask for a wall mount for a 50" Plasma ? (Is that the question that I should ask Selby, for starters ?) Q - What happens is these bloody studs dont happen to be where you want to mount the plasma ? Does that mean that I dont mount it ? ... I look forward to your advice ....
kwarrior Posted June 7, 2008 Author Posted June 7, 2008 Lovely set up K Thanks Yo....and good luck with the LX70/71A

Guessed the wrong way k ; I imagine the sansui's have considerably lower bass frequency response.I would probably do the same knowing there is very little discrete information directed to the back surrounds normally anyway. How a rocket flying from the back of the room sounds ;Ive got no idea however. If you had audessey [and probably ypao] the suggestion would be to move your couch off the back wall [ Wavetrain mentioned 1/2 metre? ]and angle some in ceiling pivoting tweeter models up the back This may not be practical but depending on where you can position your acoustic research's I would run the yammie as a 5.1 and take out the sansui's and see what you prefer ;good luck and love the wood grain in the cabinet

I look forward to your advice .... I just bought a universal wall mount from Selby, non manufacturer specific. They do have a contact link on their webpage for queries and I've used it and found them to be very good.let them know your tv brand and model and size and they will advise you of 1 that suits.Check that the wall mount is rated to take the weight of your tv I'm no builder but the studs in my wall were 600mm apart from memory so its a matter of finding the studs closest to where you want to mount the tv. The studs may not be exactly where you would like them but there was some room to slide the tv along the wall mount some 100mm or so. Tap along the wall with the handle of a screwdriver to locate the studs. If you are mounting the wall bracket to a gyprock wall it must be secured to the wall studs. you will need help to lift the tv into position as well. do you have mate that who's handy and can help you? Failing that you may be able to pay someone to wall mount it for you.
