Hello DTV Forumuers,

Have been a long time Whirlpool user, and have been reading posts with forumers pointing towards DTV Forum.

I have read quiete a few posts and have found this forum very useful.

Now from reading the posts I feel that i really shouldnt be buying a HTIB, and it is better for me to buy second hand quality parts.

Now the question is, coming from someone with almost nil HT knowledge or experience other than what I have read.

Can someonle please kindly recommend what i can buy with a budget of $1k-$1.3k on the 2nd hand market.

Thanks,

AJ14.

Edit: P.S Given my tight budget, I won't likely be adding anything to the Home Theatre within the next 3-4 years. So it would have to be an overall good quality system.

This is a difficult question to answer without knowing specifically what your requirements are. For eg. do you require a full 5.1 system or would you be happy to start with a 2.0, 3.0, or 5.0 system. Will the system be used mostly for Movie/TV/Gaming or will it be used for an equal amount of music playback? Do you have blu-ray or hd dvd or will you be going hi-def in the next couple of years? Does your budget include DVD player and or other components or just the AVR and speakers? Will this be used in a large room or smaller room? And lastly by letting people know where you are located then people might be able to make some suggestions.

Hello Yann,

I would prefer a 5.1 system but if there isn't much difference, then i guess it wouldnt be necessary.

I am just after a "cinema" experience, so the usage os mainly only for Movie, as the TV speakers are good enough for TV usage.

I do plan do go Blu-ray in a few years, but i don't think that i want a Blu-ray HD audio system as i don't think i will notice the true difference.

Budget doesn't include a DVD player. Just the AVR and speakers.

Located in good old WA.

I saw encel stereo in victoria doing a polk audio monitor series specials for $1377.

See what amps you wanna buy, dont forget this is brand new.!

Or else go to www.eastwoodhifi.com.au they have some refurbish stock or factory returns goods. So they still have warranty.

Or ask them if they can do the Kefs 2005 and what price and ask them for matching amps.

They do delivery as well. Last time I had free delivery as I bought the system from them.

A friend of mine baught this 7.2 Sony system that comes with the receiver and can be had for less than $1000

I haven't heard it so I have no first hand experience with it but he absolutely loves it...................although it really pains me to even suggest a Sony HTIB :(

The second hand market will certainly give you more bang for buck, so check out Ebay and Tradingpost

Keep your eye on this Klipsch system, and this Mordaunt-Short system (looks like it might come with the receiver, but ask the seller)

If you live in Melbourne I'd suggest seeing the guys at Clef HiFi(I'm sure others will have alternates) and you might be surprised what deal they can do for you.

cheers

EDIT: changed the Sony link to one that points to the right product
