tegregg Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 I am looking at picking up another Universal remote and have seen both the 525 and 785 Harmony remotes. Could someone please explain what the difference between them are. As far as I can see it is only a colour screen and rechargeable battery but givn the 785 is $200 more than the 525 surely there has to be more than that.

I have a 680 and 785. 785 has 6 Activities on screen, plus r,y,b,g bttons as per Austar/foxtel. Recharging is well worth while. By the way you can purchase on e-bay for < $130.
50mxe20 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 The difference between the 520 and the 880 is night and day so I suspect it will be the same with these, More buttons, better display, more activities, etc. You tend to get what you pay for.
diesel Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 At their core they are both very similar in what they control and how they do it. The differences are; the 785 has the coloured buttons in a handier position (mid remote) - the 525 has them on the bottom row, it can dislay 6 commands on the LCD The LCD is in colour You can assign favourite channels and customise channel logos onto the display (handy for foxtel) rechargeable battery and maybe an extra couple of buttons But, the 525 is very handy and still does a great job. In my opinion the 785 is not worth the ~$125 extra but that's me. I already had rechargeable batteries from the kids toys so batteries were not an extra expense for me. Each charge last about 3 months
Shonky* Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 (edited) This has been done before here. All the above plus: 785 can control 15 devices instead of 12 (something like that) Also the difference is more like $100. Retail (i.e. no mucking around with ebay) $165 vs $62 at Umart in Brisbane. Handy Andy Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 I have a 525, a 785 and an 880. The 785 is my favourite by a long way. It just feels nicer to use.

It's like using one of those rechargable shavers that comes with it's own charging dock. It works every time you pick it up.
Alfred Smee Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Yeah, but you still have to stuff around with batteries, diesel, and if you don't have a rechargeable battery recharged when you need it.....with the 785 you just forget about batteries. A remote control that doubles as a shaver .... what will they think of next? Sounds like the 785 is a "must have".
Guest EZYHD Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 One think I really like on the 785 is the coloured buttons and where they are on the unit, so easy to use with a STB, brilliant.
