Guest JohnA Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Why should i support the local shop owner? We have heard it many times, and i for one will always try and walk into a bricks and mortar store before ordering things online or purchasing overseas. However, over the last couple of weeks i have found stores are holding less and less stock, even cheaper items. 4 items now and all ordered online. The last one been the logitech vantage usb mic now this is a $40 item and no one around me had it in stock 3 jb hifi stores 4 dick smith stores all the eb game stores 2 harvey norman stores i won't even go into my last 3 purchases So tell me mr bricks and mortar, if you don't carry stock, i can't see it, or i have to wait for you to order it, why should i bother, why don't i just order in online? Then you all complain we are not supporting you, well F me, if i have to make 100 phone call or travel half a state to find something, its so much easier for me to just get on-line a few clicks and ordered. To top it off its usualy at my door next day, when YOU order it sometimes i'm lucky to even get a call back that its came in, and I HAVE TO CHASE YOU sorry, just had to vent Rant over

But of late it has been very depressing. Sorry sir we don't have it in stock, but we can get it in for you...... i can get it in myself if thats how i wanted to shop
jayweb Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Hit the nail on the head John, I cant tell you how shirty I have been lately with retailers. Some actually act as if they are doing you a favour if they do have something in stock. Living in Cairns it is bad. Little rant start Rang Myer prior to PS3 purchase two weeks ago to see if they had GTA4 pack, "no sorry". Drove 1/2 hour from my house to WOW, asked the sales person if they had GTA4 pack, he actually laughs in my face and says "f&ck me mate, you wont find that". I said "I'll keep looking, thanks". He says "Dont bother you wont find it" while still laughing at me like I was a moron. Went to shopping centre that has myer, (had to buy a bday present) stuck my head in to Myer Electronics and they had two packs, duh???. Took me literally 10 minutes of standing near case to get someone to acknowledge me and finally got to make a purchase. At least online I get what I want without some snot nosed sales person treating me like a dill for daring to ask if they had stock of an advertised item..... Rant over, long live online shopping!!!
myrantz Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Looks like the interest rate rises is affecting the retailers more than the members here... Either that or they're preparing for stock take and not bringing in more stock than they usually do....

BribieG Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 It's amazing that the OP couldn't get a Logitech product locally as they have just about tied up the peripherals market - my own computer desk looks like an ad for Logitech ! It's like going into Woolies and they haven't got any Kelloggs on the shelves. Maybe the bricks and mortar section is starting to go the same way as the services sector. The Mrs and I do a fair bit of travelling as we have heaps of leisure time (I work part time nowadays) and It's years since we walked into a travel agency. We just use Webjet, Wotif and other sites and have never had any hassles. Last year I went down to my Uni at Armidale for the res. school by Greyhound bus for a change. Queuing at the Bris. bus depot, everyone was waving an A4 sheet of paper with their boarding pass via the internet. Greyhound even charge you more nowadays if you buy your ticket through the call centre.
myrantz Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 My money is on interest rate effect - not every store can be stocktaking... Prob more stock taking I think.. Apparently economy in Australia is still doing very well ATM... And if they operater their business on borrowed money, when bank refuse their loan, they simply liquidate (like some stores in WA recently)... So at least now if I ever decide to buy anything, I don't part with my money until I confirm they actually have physical stock...

Ummmmmm, do you understand what stocktaking is? It's not what Rodney Malcolm Rude used to describe it as: "I used to do stock takes, I used to take a f$%# of a lot of stock! had me own van and everything!"

I used to think I can find all definitions in Wikipedia... Not anymore... There's no entry for stocktake in wikipedia.... Just that some retailers may not take in new stock for a moment when doing stock take... Also, some retailers seems to concentrate their stocks in a single location now, i.e. when u buy something, it's in stock but you have to wait a couple of days...

Stock taking or stock counting refers to the process of physically counting every piece of inventory a business has and comparing the results to the accounting records. Then the business has to chase up and try to find all the stuff that's gone missing since last stocktake (called "shrinkage"). Sometimes they find stock. To make the process more manageable a lot of retailers hold a stocktake sale - if they can sell a lot of stuff before the stock take they have less to count and the process is more manageable.
50mxe20 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 LOL And then there's "taking stock of your situation'.
