I have 5/6 year old Pioneer receiver. It's fairly old, all composite inputs, 1 digital input etc.

It's served well until now, but it's died on me. It gives me a poweroff message on it's screen and switches itself off. If it does stay on it sends some strange noises thru the speakers (but works) and then sometimes switches itself off anyway.

Is this a common fixable thing I don't know about? I'd prefer not to buy a new receiver if possible as first bub is on the way. Is it worth getting looked at or could it be something as simple as interfernce from another appliance in the same powerboard?

IF I do need to get a new one is there anything comparable to the value of the onkyo's? I have a 360,PS3, Toppy 7000, XBMC xbox and Austar. Thanks.

Money far outweighs the hassle issue on this one unfortunately.

How about this then?

Replace it as it would hardly be worth the hassle cost of repair and you can bring yourself very quickly up to most of the new codecs without to large a cost nowadays

I had a dodgy subwoofer output repaired on a NAD receiver a couple of years back. Minimum charge was about $50-100 just to determine the fault. Final repair cost was close to $200.

Not worth the cost, given its relative value of about $3-400.

And as yorac said, not worth the hassle either. It took nearly 8 weeks.

...and can die 3 months later when your out of your repair warranty...

Agree an AVR brand new with similar features would only be ~$500, HN had a vsx 1016? for sale the other day for $860 floor stock bargin...I would save up a bit, and get a new shiny do everything AVR, if the minister for finances says anything explain it to her, adding that we cant listen to anything until i get a replacement.....worked for me.
